I have a 5 year old Sharp VL-PD1H videocam with DV output. My PC has a Belkin combined USB2.0 + Firewire card installed - which shows as functioning correctly in Device Manager. My system runs Win XP SP2 with Windows Movie Maker 2.
Problem: My PC doesn't recognize the videocam as a DV capture device
I'm new to DV and unfortunately cannot say whether things would have been ok prior to loading SP2 and installing the Belkin card
Microsoft have failed miserably in sending me a promised hotfix to their KB ID 826377 which relates to early Sharp videocams, so can anyone out there offer any helpful advice as to how to resolve the problem?

I've had the same problem, but before installing Service pack 2 the camera was recognised and would record for 30 seconds before crashing the software. Now it can't see the camera or only very distorted images. They said SP2 contained the fix for the Sharp problem. Obviously not!

@ both
See here for a problem someone else had with firewire capture and suggested steps that, ultimately, led to a solution.
My inclination would be to go for the card uninstall / reinstall.
Hope that works...There is some corner of a foreign field that is forever England: Telstra Stadium, Sydney, 22/11/2003.
