Okay, I posted here a while ago about my Ritek and Prodisc suddenly not working on my DVD writer (pioneer 106). I bought a 108 and installed it. I found about halfway down in my prodisc stack, they started working again. Got about 8 good burns, then the rest of the spindle crapped out on me. I've now made 26 coasters in a row -- on my old drive (now installed on another machine that doesn't ever do ANYTHING except burn DVDs) and on the new Pioneer 108. In all, i've had about 30 coasters so far out of 65 attempted burns. This is weird, considering the first 20 discs in the spindle worked.
I just need to ask, is Prodisc F01 really as bad as all this, or am I maybe doing something else wrong that I don't know about? This is very frustrating.

my 106 has the latest pioneer firmware (1.08, I believe). The 108 has version 1.14.
They both seem to work fine for my Verbatim (MCC) +RW and for my Ritek G04 (non-printable). -
Some of these new burners have crappy support of new media. Double trouble. I'm seeing more and more drives that won't work with any more than 2-3 medias. Pathetic. Nobody seems to have their act together right now.

Though my experience was not nearly as bad as beartums', nonetheless I have not been impressed with ProdiscF01 on my 108 or the several other writers I tried it on. It is definitely not up to the standard of ProdiscS0x. I saw mediocre to high PI/PIF error rates, inconsistency from disc to disc, and some coasters. Nothing at all like the ProdiscS03's I've burned.

Having issues with F01's myself on an NEC 3500 with latest factory & modded firmware. Ordered 100, have burned about 75 and racked up 15 coasters so far. Previously had 100 clean burns with ProdiscS03's and 200 with Prodisc MCC 02RG20's. Going to stay away from these for a while.

I seem to recall from previous threads that the Plextor drives didn't seem to like this media much either.
Considering drives are about $80 now, and the cost of media is $30-60 per spindle of 100, you might just be better off buying a drive that deals better with the more economical media. -
Maybe thats why there 8.99 a pack of 25 at best buy.. because they know the new prodiscs are defective..or maybe it's the way the burners handle the media... I play it easy.. keep the stuff that has worked best for me... I use MCC 8x.. no probs.. and my old 4x ricohs.. all great in my pioneer 108

The 8.99 price is for all Fuji DVD 25 packs, that includes Ricoh, Prodisc and Taiyo Yuden.

I have trouble with TY, but it's a flaw of the BTC burner. All other media is fine in it, and TY media is usually flawless on most other drives.
Prodisc is generally fine media, but a couple of burners (NEC is one) have trouble.
It's a firmware issue, most likely.
This is opposite of people that love Princo or CMC, media that is generally quite bad.Want my help? Ask here! (not via PM!)

Never had a problem with Prodisc until this particular media code. Hopefully it's a future firmware fix but right now my NEC doesn't seem to like them no matter how it's flashed.
Another point that may or may not be of use. I'm using the inkjet printables. Friend of mine, using an NEC 2510, has burned roughly 65 of the standard silver top F01's without issue. -

I'm very disappointed, but at least I'm getting my burns done for the moment. I have some TY on order as well as a couple of sample packs.
Ridge mentions that the inkjet-printables seem to be a problem. And I confirm that, though I don't know why that should be the case (anyone have any ideas?). I've been burning successfully even on the crappiest silver-topped disks, but am having intermittent problems with inkjet-printables. I even have 2 packs of Ritek G04s, one printable and one not, and the printables work some of the time, the non-printables always seem to work. If anyone knows why this should be, I'd love to hear about it.

Resent them, for another replacement, if these don't work I'm going to have to find another brand. Done over 250 movies, and this is the 1st time I have have this coaster problem... I can't find anyother discs that print to the hub. Anyone know of any?

Same problem for me. First 25 Prodisc F01 discs were flawless and then about 40 coaters until I stopped trying to burn the whole disc. Now I set Shrink to burn only to the 4 gig mark. I use the printables also and the NEC 3500 should either burn them or not. Mine was burning them just fine and then the bottom fell out. Going to switch media and see what works consistently. I might note that I tried the Ritek Ridata and that was why I went to the Prodisc. The Ridata did the same thing the Prodisc does.

I have also just been bit by the Prodisc problem. I burned 48 perfect discs, then 1 coaster , finished the pack. Then I opened second pack of
-R 4X printables, 4 coasters in a row. I watched as the disc finished . It got to 100% burn then when it tried to write the lead out, it failed. Looks like a pack of garbage to me. Conversely, I bought a bunch of cheap Teon disc and the burn flawlessly! -

I just got the Nec 3500A & Fuji 50 pack DVD-R deal from PC Connection. Both for $50 after rebate (so the DVD media is "free" if I get the rebate back). The Fuji DVD media is "ProdiscF01", and produced nothing but coasters. All other DVD+R and DVD+RW media that I've been using burns great.
I have not flashed the bios of the NEC3500A, which is 2.16 .
Anyone else have this problems with the fujifilm 50 pack silver DVD-R ID ProdiscF01?

My first batch of F01 was mediocre at best. However, I decided to give it another shot..being the forgiving type, and I havnt had any problems with F01 media since. (Using a 3500AG). My wife gets varied results on her 2500ND, but I dont give her anything but TY to burn on, as i dont want to have to run more tests other than her initial verify every time she burns a disc.

I'm getting mixed results from the Prodisc F01 discs as well. Some disc burns find with PI/PO average scores in the teens, and the discs that are bad start off with good PI/PO scores until around the 3GB mark where it jumps to over 1000! Needless to say those discs are coasters. Also of note is the batch of F01 discs I'm using I didn't buy from my usual computer store (they were closed that day) and when I bought a batch of F01 for from my usual computer store for my friend the owner told me the batch of Prodisc F01 he had were good. He said he stopped carrying the 8x Prodisc for awhile cause of complaints but his supplier said the new batchs of Prodisc F01 should fix the problems. I think he maybe right cause my friends batch of Prodisc has been coasterless so far, while I'm averaging about 50% good to bad discs.

My NEC 3500A is still turning the fujifilm Prodisc F01 into coasters. Also tried Nero at slower speeds. Every single one bad.
I picked up the cheap Teon dvd+R (made in Taiwan) 20 packs at staple's for $5 each, and they burn flawlessly. Go figure. -
