This just started happening to me. I open a movie (files from hard drive after using DVD Decrypter) that is 7.35GB in DVD Shrink. The small est output size I can get is 5.19GB only keeping 5.1 audio and no extras. I can't get the target size smaller no matter what I do. I have the target size set for 4430MB. Any ideas? DVD2One works fine but I want Shrink to work. I've tried 2.3, 3.05,3.10 and 3.2, all with the same size problem. I should'nt have to shrink twice, I never had to before.

http://img75.exs.cx/my.php?loc=img75&image=Shrink.jpg It won't allow me to go below 65% compression.

If I were to have a completely blind stab at this, I would say that it is a setting you have wrong.

Most likely IMO is that you have it set to no compression instead of automatic.
    If in doubt, Google it.

What happens when you change "Custom Ratio" to "Automatic" ?
    If in doubt, Google it.

Same size. It just started doing this about a month ago. I just did a fresh Windows XP install to see if that'd help.

    Same.

I noticed with this particular DVD the duration is 12 hrs 31 min, so I'm gathering it's an episode disc ? If so, you might have to look at shrinking it a couple of times or splitting it up over two discs.

Having said that, it seems really strange when you say that numerous DVDs over 6GB have been doing this for about a month. Maybe it is a bug for when you change the DVD target size. Try changing that back to the default and see if it works. Apart from any of these, I'm out of ideas.
    If in doubt, Google it.

  16. Ran a couple of test on some DVDs. It appears that the minimum compression under 'Custom Ratio' is set by DVDShrink depending on the DVD (video.) This is probably set during the initial analysis. So, DVDShrink is saying that it does not believe it can safely compress the DVD (video) any more than a value it calculates. So it won't let you set the compression value any lower.

I think your only choices are to split the DVD into two DVDs or compress twice.

In the example in your picture, I calculate that you would need to compress the main movie to 54.7% I would think that this is too much compression, but to each his own.

I would split the DVD into two. To keep the menu, convert some of the episodes to still image. The image should say to insert the other DVD.

is the DVD really 12 hours long or is it linked titles that is giving it a false time?

12 hours video on a full dual layer DVD wouldn't exactly be high quality and the main title(s) is only just over 7GB also

do you have combine linked titles selected in the options?

just a thought but seeing as you tried other versions I doubt its as simple as that

    I think dfluke is right.

SHRINK has ALLWAYS a maximun compress in a certain pass. If not we could shrink the extras or the nenus to any ratio in order to provide more room for the main movie, and we canīt.

So the issue for me is that the original is 12 hours. And audio is 818 MB.

To fit such a long video in a DVD, even in a DVD9, the bitrates of the original should be on the low side.
So Shrink is saying, after analysing, that the extra compressability of the video is just to 65% (you have to remember the original is already compressed)

So NOTHING IS BROKEN. DVDShrink is just working as is should

    Solutions:

    - As gitreel suggested, try a 2-pass Shrink: The first pass you'll get that 65.5%. Then load the output from the first pass in Shrink and shrink again
    - As jimmalenko suggested, split to 2 discs.

  19. Hello all, I am having the same problem with Shrink 3.2 all of the sudden. I have backed up at least 40 DVD's and then all of the sudden any regular movie s ( no disc sets etc..) come back after the first anyalis with the movie being to big even in auto mode. I did a complete de-install and re-install and am getting the same thing. And I also did a freash install of XP as well. Plus I have shrink on a second internal harddrive and have it set to store the files to my larger Cdisc. I have not added any new software and I read from internal DVD ROM to an external USB DVD-RW. This set-up worked great up till now ? Would be thankful for any help

    If in doubt, Google it.
