  1. Hi folks,

I use recode2 to convert a 4.7G DVD movie to an *.nrg Nero Image about 700Mb. I then use Nero "Burn Image to Disc (a CD)". After it is done, I can't play it in any of my dvd players. But the disc can still play in my pc. Did i do something wrong? Or did I miss out on something???

    Thanks...

Can your players play XVCDs ?
    If in doubt, Google it.

    XVCD
eXtended VCD - XVCD has same features as VCD but it is possible to use higher bitrates and higher resolution to get higher video quality. XVCD is basically everything that uses MPEG-1 video, is not within the VCD standard, and burned in "VCD" Mode on a CD-R or CD-R(W). XVCD can be played on some hardware VCD or DVD players and many computers with appropriate software.
That's what I believe that Nero Recode is creating for you. Is there a setting you're using to say stick to VCD standard compliance, or are you just setting the output size and letting it figure everything out for itself ?

IMO EazyVCD is one of the easiest softwares to turn DVD into (X)(S)VCD. It might be worth you taking a look at it.
    If in doubt, Google it.

  5. Come to think of it. I did created an KVCD and was able to play it on my dvd player. Is that the same thing?

    Yes it's simular.
Did Recode make a miniDVD or MPEG-4 disc?Open the disc in Explorer and look for 'MPEGAV' folder...if it's not there then it's NOT a S/VCD.

Yep. A KVCD is an XVCD, because it's not a standard VCD. If you can play them, then you should be able to play XVCDs, so it sounds like either Nero Recode is doing something funky, or there's something you're not telling us.
    If in doubt, Google it.

  8. When I browse under explorer, it shows the whole image. There is no mpegav folder. It looks like Nero wrote the whole file as if writing it as data file. But I did use "Burn Image to Disc".

I'd suggest you've just created an MPEG file, and haven't authored as VCD then.
    If in doubt, Google it.
