Direct tv to pc...Again

I have read till my eyes are bleeding. I have direct tv with tivo as well as other units in the house without tivo. Can I use an ATI all in wonder to get the signal to my PC then record shows to the pc then to DVD? All this hacking the tivo aint gonna happen so I'm trying to find an easier way.

Yeah just hook the audio/video out cables to the audio/video in cables as you would a vcr. Then just record as normal.

No better than what you see directly on your TV, most likey a little bit fuzzier. You will lose 1) HDTV resolution and 2) DD5.1 surround audio.

Ditto - It's an analoge capture. That's why people hack their tivos to get the digital files to the harddrive.

It will hook up just like hooking up a vcr or camcorder.

Just hooked up the card and am getting tv/Satellite on my PC...Wooohooooo Used the coax connectionon back of sat reciever and ran that to the All in wonder. Recorded a little stuff. Now the stupid question...What do I do to get it on a DVD to play on my set top. I have the newest Nero

You have to have a dvd authoring program and a burner.

You solved the easy part.

Now you need to do some more reading. Just look to the 'Guides' to the left.

Short version. You make your recorded video DVD compatible, then author it, then burn it. Nero may do all that for you, depending on the version. I don't really recommend that method. For good quality, IMO, you can use a program like TMPGEnc DVD Author for the authoring of a compatible video. Check 'What is DVD' also to the left for the specifications. I just know you are going to have a few more questions. Good luck!

I'm sure you are right. I did a capture and burn with Nero....YUK...Picture looked terrable. Think it captured at too high a rate?? Not even sure what I'm talking about. Should it capture at 480x480 If so..It did not 720X480 I think..If that makes any sense

480x480 is SVCD.

720x480 is dvd.

If your source looks bad you can't make it look better (not much anyway).

Big question. If I'm looking at live tv and it looks good. Should it not look good when on the DVD

Not neccessarily.

If your bitrate is really high on the capture and you have to squeeze it to fit on a dvd then it will suffer in quality.

But usually what you see is what you get.

Keep practicing and you'll get the hang of it.

From what I have read, you can also get a DVB card for your PC ($100) and run the dish signal directly into your PC. Then your picture never goes analog... and you keep the HDTV resolution on those channels too.
