    This type of encoding/resampling is very CPU intensive. Also there is alot of disk I/O goin on too.

    See http://www.xtremecomputing.co.uk/review.php?id=104&page=2

    Which is a review of a CPU water cooler. They use SVCD2DVD as part of the benchmarking!!:

    Performance

    To Test I am going to use realtime tests to heat up the Cpu example of which are PCMARK 04. SVCD2DVD and plenty of gaming (the good part) I could use burn in test but these are not real Cpu situations for me. Plus any one that’s tried SVCD2DVD will know one conversion running nearly utilizes full Cpu constantly were as 2 versions well I haven't seen a computer handle it yet. Just imagine two video conversions at once to give you some idea of the strain.
    Or http://www.xtremecomputing.co.uk/review.php?id=1:

    For this test I will leave the Computer idle for 8 hours before taking the temperature and for load I am going to use a svcd2dvd conversion program, now for those of you that don’t know svcd2dvd this program converts bins to DVD ready mpg and totally abuses the processor to its limits.
    SVCD2DVD v2.5, AVI/MPEG/HDTV/AviSynth/h264->DVD, PAL->NTSC conversion.
