  1. I'm gonna have to replace a PCI NIC in a Dell 4500. These are the two I'm looking at so far. Any opinions or recommendations for something better?

    Hello,

I think are both are good brands. I used a linksys in my hp before I got my new emachine which has integrated lan on the motherboard (ie not a pci card).

You can't lose with those brands, go for the cheaper one

  3. The D-link is cheaper. $12 from Staples with free delivery, but takes longer to get than the Linksys. Decisions decisions.

  4. any good way to diagnose a bad NIC? The computer is seeing it fine, and the PC light in on the modem, but I get nothing from it. I'm thinking it sending okay but not receiving.

both are good.. but i personaly like linksys better.. i use to have a dlink router and NICs i moved to linksys routers and NIC and things seem to be a bit more user friendly in the router and the nics seem to work great. als long as set up properly..

P.S. i have a post in this section regarding NDIS.sys errors.. not that you are having these.. but if you are having nic troubles try moving the card to different slots. it really helped my situation.

I'd go with the D-Link. It's cheaper, and I prefer D-Link products. Overall, it really won't matter a whole lot.

If you're buying new anyway, go gigabit. It's not that much more...

  9. Thanks for all the input. I guess its up to her what to go with, which will probably be cost based but I'll try and talk her into a better piece of equipment.
