    Hi,

I usually back-up my movies with DVD-R, but recently I've found blank DVD+R media to be much cheaper. If I use my DVD+/-RW drive to initially burn a movie on DVD+R can I then make a direct copy from DVD+R to DVD-R, just as one can make a direct DVD-Video to DVD-R copy, or will there be any compatibility issues? In other words, if you have a movie on DVD+R can you make a direct copy to DVD-R?

    Thanks,
    Mick

    Hello,

Nope. It's all data. Just do a direct disc copy and you'll be fine

Yes, you can, and no, there won't be.

    Yes.
    If in doubt, Google it.

Thanks for the reply, Kevin and Jim. Great, I didn't want to buy a spindle of DVD+R discs until I knew for sure (no one at CompUSA seemed to know the answer to this).

By the way, for those living in the States, CompUSA has a good deal of 100 4x DVD+R discs for under $50. I've used CompUSA brand DVD-R with my Sony DRU-510 drive and it seems to work at least as well as any other brand I have tried. You can find cheaper media online, but if you need media in a pinch CompUSA may be a good option.

    Thanks again, Kevin and Jim.

  5. Just remember +R holds marginally less than -R.

If you've gone right to the line on a -R you may find there isn't enough space on a +R, but I'm really talking to the wire here...

  6. That is not a good price for 4X media and it is certainly not a good price for CompUSA media which is usually low quality and often different media codes. You should check out Rima.com for very good prices on high quality media. BTW you don't always have to use 4X media in a 4X drive. Most will work with 8X just fine if that is your concern.
Still a few bugs in the system...
