  2. Use a Mac or Linux. If you have to use Windows, don't use Windows Media Player - switch to a freeware alternative.

Let them know that they aren't the ones to be dictating to their customers what we can and cannot do.

That seems like a years-old article about "peecee" boogeymen. A bit much, if you ask me.

The trusted computing is nothing to worry about.

This was a phase that was in vogue early in the 80's then died off.

You do not need to lose sleep over it.

As I said before, it can be disabled, so what are you freaking out about.

Even if it does happen, you can disable it and your pc will act like normal; however if you disable it, you cannot use the special features of palladium such as advanced virus detection and prevention.

Longhorn has been defanged. There has been issues with the next generation secure computing base anyway. Several features that were originally meant for Longhorn have been split up and will be addons to Xp via patches. The point of Longhorn was that it was supposed to be the next evolution of the OS and the greatest thing since windows 95. You really are making a mountain out of a molehill.

A freeware alternative i would suggest is media player classic, a 1000 times better than windows media player. i use it for playing everything (expect dvds where i use powerdvd 6).

    Hello,

The way I look at it is until they make a computer that won't work unless it's online 100% for constant "verification" there's not too much to be worried about.

You can still use a pc without being plugged into the net. That means you can still do whatever you want with it. There will always be alternatives to "online only" features. And as for "dvd activation", they'll be work arounds just like decss. But then again they won't be able to work on the 60 million dvd players already sold without a net adapter. And I'm sure even the bluray/hddvd next generation players are standalone.

I agree with others that this site seems very slanted. Of course companies want to protect their property. But consumers will have the final say so. Look at Sony. They finally caved and allowed MP3 on their digital portables. Why??? Because they finally realized people want control of their own media. In the end consumers really do have more power than the companies. If we won't buy it they have to adapt to meet what we want.

  17. This stuff is as dead as the Leased Applications idea. MS & others wanted to lease you their o/s and office
applications per month and have it transmitted downline
aka metaframe for you to use, but not own.
