  1. Hi all.

I need your help for the last problème I have with DVD spec.
I can't find anywhere information about Parental Management for DVD

I know what Parental Management is, but they are no information about how Parental Management is traited by DVD players.

VIDEO_TS.IFO contains a table named VMG_PTL_MAIT with a mask for each file number and each parental level. how this mask is use ???
same masks are in the title table, one for each title, and one for each pgc.

Does anybody have informations about theses masks and how they are managed.

Does DVDSP can use Parent Management ?, if yes may be DVDSP users know something that could help me.

The last solution is to have a DVD with Parental Management, and especially with seamless playback depending on parental level (scene cutted for children)
Does anybody have that ? (I just need the IFO files)

    Thanks for help
    Jerome.

I've never heard of this, and I doubt any DVDs out there actually support this feature, so I don't know how useful this could be. I definitely haven't seen any such options in DVDSP, but I can't say I really looked. The only form of parental control I know of is a specialized DVD player that gets timecodes of mature scenes and language for specific titles from the company's server, and cuts out scenes during playback on movies that are in the database. This is not something that's actually programmed into the DVD itself.
I like systems, their application excepted. (George Sand, translated from French), "J'aime beaucoup les systèmes, le cas d'application excepté."

The parental management feature is tied to the rating you give your content. I am 98% sure in the latest DVD Studio Pro, you can assign a rating to a track (the option to do this is quite buried if I recall correctly). Once you give your content a rating, then it works in conjunction with the settop player to block or grant access to content. In a players preferences you can tell it to ask for a password for content above a certain rating.
