  1. I searched for answers before posting, but didn't find this exact problem posted before. When I convert an .avi to dvd using WinAVI, after burning the dvd the video is jerky and the audio is slightly out of sync lagging behind the video. The original .avi file is good so something about the conversion or the burning process is causing this problem. I have tried auto setting as well as choosing the NTSC frame rate and NTSC output. I leave the aspect ration setting at default.

WinAVI for converting the Divx .avi in NTSC format
    Nero for burning the DVD-R
    LiteOn DVD burner
    Pentium IV 2.26Gh - 1024MB ram
    WinXp Home SP2

Any help would be very much appreciated.

  2. try Auto framerate, and PAL output.
    that will work.
it more than likely means you have a 25 fps avi, that doesnt like the conversion to NTSC(23fps or 29fps)

  3. I used GSpot to get the details on my original .avi, and it says it's 29.97 fps. If I use PAL it won't play in my standalone Sony dvd player will it?

  4. the reason you have problems is the transition from 29fps to 23.
you have nothing to lose by selecting PAL other than 1 dvd.
if you live in the states,it might work,it all depends on the tv,etc.
like i say give it a try and see if its whats at fault.

  5. I'm having pretty much the same problem. When I play it on computer, it's extremely jerky. When I play it on my dvd player however, it goes for about 5 seconds then freezes at that spot completely. If I put it in fast forward, I can see all the pictures though. Bahhh this is frustrating!

  6. RottenFoxBreath, I don't understand what you mean by going from 29 to 23. If the original is 29 and I'm converting it using NTSC, that is still 29 right? I'm confused.

  7. nope.ive seen convertions that go either way.
only good format ive seen on it is the PAL one..
it might convert from 29 to 23,or vice versa.try the pal format and play it back on the pc,as i said before, just try it and see if its smoother or less laggy.

If the source is 29.97, then it should STAY 29.97. No need whatsoever to do any frame rate conversions or anything, this is only going to lead to more problems IMO. Try this guide for AVI--> DVD conversion and see how you go. I'd be fairly confident that WinAVI is the problem here.
    If in doubt, Google it.

  9. Thanks for the tips. I guess I'm going to have to do some studying to figure out how to solve my problem. I was hoping there was an easy solution.

  10. i dont understand the thing with not converting to pal to see if that works ok.
you dont have to convert the whole thing, even just a small portion and test it.
it seems to me that you just want to hear an answer that suits you, instead of trying different approaches.
in winavi,if i convert to 29fps,the lag is unbearable, and audio out of sync.
same if i convert to 23fps sometimes, but the lag is the other way,(sound before picture).
convert to PAL,seems to work fine.

You should always keep the final format the same as the source if possible - it is certainly much much easier.
    If in doubt, Google it.
