This just happened to me the day after Thanksgiving at a well
know electronics store we all shop at.
At checkout, I handed the cashier 3 gift cards. Two were in
the amount of $50 each, the other for $35. The two $50 cards
went thru when I looked at the receipt.
He handed one back to me and told me it was declined and I
should just try it at a later time because the system was down
and it did not indicate the reason why it was being declined.
I didn't give it a second thought. Yesterday I went to one of
their other stores and presented my $35 gift card and it
was declined! They told me that it had already been used.
They said it had been used on the 26th! That's the day after
Thanksgiving; the day that it was originally declined.
I tried to explain how I had handed 3 gift cards to the cashier
and that one was returned to me. This is where things get very
fishy. They tell me that I'm holding a used $50 gift card that
was used on the 26th that they tracked to my receipt. I should be
holding a $35 gift card because both my $50 cards went thru.
The thieving cashier scammed me with the shell game and handed back
one of my just used cards and kept my good $35 one.
From now on, I will hand one gift card at a time so this will not
happen to me again.

How cooperative they are is directly proportionate to how big of an ******* you are willing to be.
I've made the checkout girl at walmart cry over shorting me .04 cents, don't think for one second that I am unwilling to make a scene over a $35 gift card. -

I spoke to the manager of that store via telephone, because it is out of state. I went shopping there while visiting my family for Thanksgiving. The store in my state looked at me like I was trying to pull a fast one. They treated me like I was the culprit! I"m the victim here! Even the customer service hotline treated me like that. Well, to make a long story short, the manager at the store where it happened tells me that there is an on-going investigation because I'm not the only one this has happened to. He says that he will be contacting me soon. Hopefully it goes well, otherwise I'll be contacting the Better Business Bureau.-The Mang -
Contact the BBB anyways and file a complaint. It'll help light a fire underneath the one they have already started, if what he said is true.
Either way you were inconvenienced by the conniving clerk ...grounds enough for a BBB complaint -

Please refer to the Northcat "How to be an ******* for Newbies" text for examples on how to navigate your way through the corporate headquarters to finally talk to someone with some power.
I don't know how far away it is, but I would not be above driving back there. But that's just me, I will spend $32,000 fighting American Eagle before I pay them the $32 they think I owe them. You hear that Margret?! You ARE NOT GETTING THAT $32 FROM ME, I am not paying it and I don't give a **** what you do, I AM NOT PAYING IT! So GO **** YOURSELF -
You want to hear something funny?
I can look out my window at work, and I'm staring right at
their headquarters. If all else fails, I will be going over
there.-The Mang -

I would have done been there.
Also that would be easy to find home phone number and addresses of managers and I would call them fuckers at home. Eventually someone will give you $35 just so they don't have to deal with you anymore.
It's a principle thing now. -

he is no longer bright and chipper at the sound of my voice. but he assured me that I'd get a check before the holidays. if I don't, Dec. 26th the phone calls start again.
the funny thing is, I have no idea what the stock is worth - it could be a few hundred bucks, it could be less than a lunch at Wendy's.... but now it's principle, and I will get paid.

Your receipt can identify the cashier that took your cards. If you still have them, you can state that it was this cashier that you had the trouble with. Also, the gift cards usually have a backing or some other piece of plastic or cardboard it's connected to. Believe it of not, some giftcards can be traced by the information on that extra part, Like money orders can be traced. If someone takes a money order, you can cancel it immediately and that person can be caught. Beware, not all giftcards have that ability, but it's worth a try to at least find your receipt and gift card information and try and nail the SOB that did this to you.
