  1. After reading a lot on this and other forums about people trying to copy their star wars "A New Hope" dvd, I ran into the same exact issues. Nothing would work. I tried DVD Decryptor, DVD Shrink, SmartRipper, vStrip, etc etc.

Eventually, through sheer trial and error, I got it, with a caveat.

Simply use DVD Shrink but choose NOT to copy subtitles.
Once I removed subtitles from the mix, everything went perfectly.

However, the scene with Greedo does not have any subtitles when he's talking, for obvious reasons. If you can get past that, it works.

    Cheers

  3. Does the older version rip it completely and correctly, and if so, why does the new one choke?

  4. My DVDshrink latest version worked with a new hope.

What kind of problems were people experienceing?
Would Shrink give you a failure, or after watching the copy you would notice an issue?

  5. Basically like many others, it would get to a point where it had ripped about 417,600k in the file vts_02_4.vob, then the drive light would start flashing, it would claim to be reading errors, and just go on like that pretty much indefinitely. Every tool reported the same error.

    I have a Memorex double-layer 16x if that helps.

  6. Ohh, I see.

So what fandim said in this post didn't help regarding using DVDdecrypter and ignore read errors.

    Sorry not much help.
Maybe try reading from a different DVD drive(if available)?

i had no problems using the older version or with the latest version of DVD SHRINK for A NEW HOPE. i got no error msgs using the older version or the latest one. it seems others had problems and others didn't. some dvd-roms/dvdrw are not good readers so that could be a problem too. try out the older version and see if it works or not for you.
