Is anybody else SO sick of seeing $2 items on eBay with $15 shipping and handling costs you have stopped using eBay completely?

Personally, I don't see the point of browsing eBay anymore. Everything has a really cheap starting bid or "buy it now" price but has a huge shipping cost that is obviously the real profit for the seller. This is a big waste of time because you never know how much an item costs until you click on it and scroll down to shipping costs.

NewEgg is a great example of this not happening. They always show their shipping right under the cost and often even have free shipping. I wish more online stores would use their example.

I think if eBay continues on this route, they will become less and less popular. They HAVE to start putting up shipping costs right next to the price when browsing.

Personally, I think the PriceWatch system is the best where they count ground shipping as part of the cost of the item. If only PriceWatch didn't start sucking a while ago.

Perhaps that's how they get around the eBay fees. (My opinion)

I am "blaming" eBay because they don't show the shipping costs alongside the bid price in the search results. If they wanted to, they could implement such a feature but are probably too afraid because they think they may alienate some sellers. Little do they know it will save their business in the long run.

Perhaps that's how they get around the eBay fees.
I have always been confused about this even though I have sold dozens of things on eBay myself. I guess I should pay attention.

You are probably right. A friend of mine told me the same thing. If this is the case, all the more reason for eBay to take my advice and show shipping costs. IT IS FOR THEIR OWN GOOD!

P.S. That is one funny painting!

    I won't dignify that with a response.

    .....................oh shit, I just did.

Anyway, I hope you understand that it is not the scrolling that bothers me but the clicking.

I recently bought a record by Fanny that has the

By the way, for the youngsters, a record is a flat piece of

sellers who do charge large shipping costs do that to avoid ebay fees - which is a violation of the eBay EULA..... If caught, they would be suspended.... it takes some homework though, you have to figure the actual shipping costs from point of origin to destination - subtract that from the shipping costs that they advertise... the difference is the 'handling costs' - they are allowed a reasonable amount for that, but it's up to ebay to decide if it's reasonable, and YOU have to notify them of it....

You do the legwork, and MAYBE ebay does something about it. Only way to fight that, is to find a different seller with more reasonable shipping rates.

People would still bitch and moan about the price if they didn't charge anything for the shipping and asked 10 bucks for the 10 dollar item they're selling right up front.

It might be worth it to get your own UPS or FedEx account. Then just schedule a pickup once you've paid for the item and you won't have to worry about inflated shipping costs.

I also avoid the inflated shipping costs sellers. I only charge actual shipping costs for my auctions, and I state that in the auction itself. I think people really appreciate it. I think more people who sell at those rates should be reported.

Actually the real problem here is a lack of competition for eBay. Yahoo auctions would have beaten eBay by now if they hadn't started charging for their auctions before they were competitive with eBay.

Yeah. Squealing on the little guys will probably get you some justice, but you're pissing in the wind complaining to eBay about some ******* gouge artist raping people on shipping if it's one of their "power seller" massive feedback stat types.

if you don't like the shipping cost, don't bid. if it is such a hassle to scroll down to the bottom of the auction to see the cost, don't use an auction site, use a regular store.

if someone is charging $15 to ship something that should cost $3, I don't bid. it's that simple. for most computer hardware, that's the first thing I check, and I've passed on a bunch of stuff this week where the shipping charges were ridiculous.

Yep. I only buy my computer stuff from online stores now, and only from those that clearly tell you shipping costs like NewEgg and RIMA.

I haven't bought anything from eBay in a very long time, mainly because of the reason stated in this thread. Also, I find that most of the stuff on eBay is overpriced and targeted towards those who don't know better. Just my opinion.

I've bought a bunch of used computer parts from Ebay. I always email to ask for the exact shipping cost before I bid. I've only had 2 defective items that I returned and even got my shipping charges refunded to me.

A Liteon DVD-rom that the dude sent in a freeking envelope with no packing material enclosed to cushion the drive. It was broken when I received it. I told the dude either you refund my money or I'll have a ebay dispute resolution done. He quickly emailed me back and I received my money in 5 days. I bid and won a OEM of WINDOWS XP PRO and was sent a freeking restore disc for a DELL PC. I got my money back with that one too.

EBay is the perfect example of a gathering chaos. It does not obey or enforce EQUALLY any of its policies. It's an uneven playing field that screws many people, but makes successes out of many others. It's no wonder people hate it. I hate it for the most part.

It's mostly worthless, often because of crazy shipping fees.

You guys need to stay away from the power sellers and other professional Ebay-ers. OF COURSE most computer related stuff can be found at online retailers cheaper.
I have NEVER thought of Ebay as a place to "shop"....maybe you folks should think of it that way as well.
Ebay is a place to find the occasional rare item. In my case rare videos, movies and music.

Hell! yuh it's crazy shipping fees to Hawaii dammit! I honestly haven't had problems with new or used pc parts. I've purchased many ata controller cards for reasonable prices $20-$24.00 which included the shipping. I won't buy memory, cpu's or mobo's from ebay. That's what NEWEGG.COM is for!

Ebay is just an online garage sale. Expect junk, pay for junk, be surprised when it shows up and it's actually NOT junk. Chances are you'll never get burned.

I have bought a few things from people with a $1-$2 bid and jacked up shipping. Usually it's the DVD cases. Last time I think it was like 19 or 20 bucks total for like 100 of them shipped.

That's the only thing that sucks is the shipping cost for DVD CASES (for Hawaii). I bought 100 cases from someone which charged me $25.50 for shipping which was fine for me because I won the auction for $2.32. But now that person won't ship to Hawaii. Go figure because they aren't the ones paying for the shipping cost. I'm willing to pay for reasonable shipping for DVD CASES as long as the total price is cheaper than what I can get it for locally. I'm sure they can ship it GROUND which only means it will ship air but would take 5-7 days to get here. I've shipped GROUND on both UPS & FED EX to the mainland states.

For all people (lovers, haters or indifferents), I work in a bank and have to deal with a lot of EBay-related stuff. As I wrote in another thread, I'm responsible for the incoming payments where account names don't match, and it's my job to sort out payments that have come in someone's maiden name, or business name but to that business-owner's personal account, or whatever. The number of people that transfer money to ebay sellers, and use either their own handle, or the seller's handle, as the destination account name. There's no issue if this is the reference, but how the **** am I to know that John Smith goes by the alias "sheep_******_no_2" on ebay ?

I also have to deal with all the transactions that go bad for one reason or another. People come to us and expect us to protect them, but get a rude shock when we tell them "You accepted our terms and conditions, which clearly states that you and you alone are responsible for any EFT transfers that come out of your account, unless you believe them to be fraudulent." Fraudulent covers situations where your internet banking password has been compromised. At all other times, if you make an EFT via Internet Banking and the sale goes bad, you've gotta wear it, not us!

Please think of us cretins trying to work out where the **** you want your money to go before using EFT next time.

    Thank you, much appreciated
    If in doubt, Google it.

I don't use eBay that much, only if the item is rareish. One of the other forums I'm on has a market place where you can get some great deals because the sellers are honest and you don't get a bidding war like on eBay.

I just picked up a laptop for a $1000 that I can easily chuck on eBay for $1500.

I've never had any payment issues with either Ebay or Paypal. Of course I'm an honest Ebay-er and monitor my auctions pretty carefully. I have an extensive list of deadbeats who are not allowed to bid on my auctions and I use "Immediate Payment Required" as much as possible.
I haven't sold anything on Ebay for quite a while but still check Ebay almost every day for rare music and related stuff from a select few favorite recording artists.

I'm gonna call the bank this morning and go apeshit on some teller about some imaginary EFT flub on my account and then hang up once I've got them frazzled, just for you Jimmy.

I dont care for Ebay myself. In fact the last time I used Ebay was last year when I sold my Hi-8 deck. IMO, Ebay is for alot of cheapskates that dont want to pay a decent price for something that is worth more than some want to pay.

I usually just go to a reputable dealer to buy what I need.
