    How fast can this drive write? Does it have it's limit. I've always used G04 Ritek DVD's and told it to burn at 4x (using Roxio software) and it will only burn at 2x at the most.

    Now I just purchased 8x ritek DVD-R's and am wondering if they are even going to work.

    I have the internal version of that drive... DRU500A. Its rated at 4x for +R and -R (assuming you have the newer firmware and compatible media). AFAIK it can not burn any faster than that. Locked by firmware, and not sure if the mechanics can go any faster.

    I purchased Fuji +R 8x. They burn fine at 4x with the latest 2.1a firmware.
