  1. No, that is not a typo. I couldn't find much info on TEON here, but it appears that most had success with them. But a friggin' 40 pack for less than $3?!?!? It's worth a shot, right!!!

Staples is first to release their X-Mas prices. Linked below is some of the stuff they have:

    http://instorespecials.staples.com/staples/default.aspx?action=browsepagelarge&storeid...9&pagenumber=1

DL burners for $40!! Wireless G-router and card for $20!! 17" LCD monitor for $200!! They have some great deals!!

What the hell is an "easy rebate" ?
If it were no-frills $3, I'd play with them. If nothing more, I need some new coasters for the coffee table.

Easy Rebates are rebate products that are eligible for online submission. Products marked with this icon and/or the phrase “Easy Rebate” in the item description are eligible for online submission. If you prefer to mail in your rebate form for an Easy Rebate product, you can do that, too. Just use the “Find rebate offers now” link and print out the form.

Mail-in rebates are products that are not eligible for online submission. You may pre-register online, by entering your mailing information, but you will still have to mail in your rebate form and any additional required information.

Which products are not eligible for online submission? Certain products, including most software titles, are not eligible for online submission. Any products excluded from the online submission process will be advertised as qualifying for a “mail-in rebate” versus an “Easy Rebate.”
Never tried it but it sounds ok.

For 3 bucks, I may very well buy some.

I don't know about the TEONs, but I remeber a thread on here awhile back when they last went on sale. A search should find it. Since these sales apply to our crappy little town as well (which only has Staples), it will be worth it to get down there early and pick up the DVD DL drive and the 160G hard drive. I'll be up anyway, and can't go too wrong at those prices!

  9. I purchased some of these a few moths ago. Same type of deal. I forget who the manufacture was (code). But when I did get the manufacturer code it was one of the one’s that stated “only good for land fills”. Some did work, but most froze before the end of the movies I burnt.
My wife threatened to divorce me so I stopped using them.
Keep in mind this was a few months back.

It should be a Benq 1620.
Office Depot carries them and they are OEM Benq 1620. The Benq site has firmware for both retail and oem.

I happily ignore the 'landfill' list and some of my best burning discs are +R CMCs, so if that is what they are I would not hesitate to buy them. I won't get into a rant on CMC, except to say that smurfie reserves 'landfill material' as 'Pathetic garbage media with 0-50% success rates'. I have a 100% success rate with +R CMC media. What pathetic garbage

I did a search and I saw one person each state media codes of CMC MAG AF1 and PHILIPS-C08-00. I'd like to know if that is consistent with what others have gotten when they bought these discs.

I just ran across the reviews of the media, it didn't show up when I searched for it before, I swear I typed in Teon and had no returns on the search earlier....

  13. Easy rebates means you don't have to submit a UPC code, or mail anything in.

  14. I purchased an I/O magic drive last year. It was made by BTC. Alot of people had alot of problems with the drives and it was made known in the I/O magic forum and they closed down the forums due to all the complaints. I havent had any problems with mine, but I was recieving almost 50 emails or personal messages on thier forums asking me how I got mine to work with no problems.

I have never heard of them but I doubt they are "any good". Best Buy does not use "easy rebates" so I don't know if I would of bothered.

Anyway, they didn't have any left when I went to Best Buy today.

I also went to Staples and they were long out of those TEON discs. Wasn't too dissapointed.

  18. I bought the -R and +R spindles early this morning at Staples. The -Rs burned at 12X in my Benq 1620 Pro. The +Rs burn at 4X according to the Benq QScan software. They are both CMC media.
I'd rather have a bottle in front of me than a frontal lobotomy.

If it makes you feel any better, I'm not a huge TY fan myself. Good chunk of coasters in the past (enough to be pissed off at $1 per loss). But I cannot go against overall experiences when giving ratings on the site lists.

And you ACTUALLY BELIEVE that CMC +R media has an overall failure rate of greater than 50%?? I've burned alot of different very cheap media codes, and the only media codes that I've used that were more than maybe a 10% failure rate would be -R Optodisc and AN31, and that Optodisc crap was close to 100% failure rate. AN31 may be approaching a 50% failure rate, especially when burned to the edge of the disc. From what I've seen + my own experience, to put CMC +R in the same category as AN31 is just ridiculous and inaccurate. I haven't seen that many complaints about CMC +R media, and I've never burned a coaster that I can recall on any of my 3 different burners of mine. Perhaps you are being biased based on YOUR personal experiences?? Maybe you should consider getting a newer burner, if it consistently burns coasters with media that all 3 of my +R burners have NO trouble burning extremely well. Or do you simply bash CMC so strongly because you are unhappy with major 'reputable' manufacturers such as Verbatim switching from MCC, etc., to CMC media?

And you claim a 'good chunk' of coasters with TY... are we talking 1 out of 10 or 1 out of 100 or? Again maybe you should consider a newer, better burning burner. I have not burned that much TY media yet, but I've had nothing approaching a coaster on any of my burners with TY media.

I know that you are quite knowledgeable about the subject of media, but I find your assessment of CMC to be wrong (at least there +R media, I have essentially zero experience with their -R media). Consequently, alot of people that have never even used CMC blindly bash it as pure crap.

It is not about "newer" burners but ones that may prefer certain medias to others. Mine and your burners love CMC +R and hate Optodisc -R. Smurf had the opposite results. So did a lot of his friends. It's his site and he can do what he wants with it. I personally also find some of his ratings unusual considering a lot of people now getting mediocre results with MCC -R and good results with CMC +R. I don't think he pulls those ratings out of his ass. He has more than enough disclaimers stating the RESULTS MAY VARY.

The DVD media review list on this site is a good alternative if you think Smurf's results are biased or have too small a sample size. So is CDFreaks which has some good scans of CMC +R.

I bought a 40 pack of Teon +R's this morning. They are MCC. The last pack of Teon +R's I bought a couple of months ago were Philips.

I also bought the Maxtor 160 GB for $39 and the I/O Magic 16x dual layer burner for $39 all after rebates. The I/O Magic I bought is a BTC DRW10161M. I just updated the firmware to vA07F. It supports bit-setting, but you have to set it to DVD-ROM for each disk, it won't keep it as default. I burned a few disks and no problems so far. I figure you can't go wrong for $40.
Got my retirement plans all set. Looks like I only have to work another 5 years after I die........
