  1. Since upgrading to OSX 10.3.6 I notice that the Hurz and Pfurz functionality in DVD Player seems to not be working—notably the ability to skip ahead directly to the menu on a DVD instead of waiting for the logos and crap to play.

I haven't heard of any update for them, and was wondering if any of you guys have noticed (or not noticed) a change.

Hurz and Pfurz are for iDVD, not for DVD player. Most DVDs with the previews allow you to skip ahead to the title menu using the chapter skip key while the preview is playing. However, you can't do that during the copyright warning and some other screens.

Yeah, friends of ours came around the other day with their five year old and copy of Shrek 2. Plonked the poor kid in front of the PB with an external monitor and waited for at least 10 minutes while some extended making of/trailer for a new Dreamworks animated film played on and on. Any attempts to skip it were Not Permitted. I thought it was really poor form to put that into a bought DVD.

But that's all part of the studios MARKETING plan...
to get you to start thinking ahead on their next release.

If they made DVDs just for kids, there'd be no trailers,
no extras, but tons of PRODUCT PLACEMENT ads
for toys, lego sets, games, etc. Just look at the
Nickeloden DVDS for Dora and Blue's Clues.

I think all of the Disney DVDs are like that which just sucks. Thank God or whomever for the feature that remembers what point in the movie you last played it.
