  1. I have read so many posts about media that I'm about as mixed up as a chicken feather in a hurricane. I have a Plextor 708A for reading and an NEC 3500 AG (whatever the G stands for I don't know) for writing. I have been using some Ridata +R's and some BeAll +R's and have been having problems with them dropping off around 4 gb. I know they're cheap disks but I'm going to change that with your help.

I would appreciate knowing whether or not it's best to use -r or +r disks and suggestions on purchasing some TOP QUALITY hub printable brand DVD's. Whatever the consensus is, that is what I will buy. I'm tired of not being able to use the whole disks and them not working in some players.

    Help would be greatly appreciated.

There will never be a consensus! Did you try a basic search for best media, or which format is better yet? You will probably get 2000 hits for the subjects, EACH

DVD-R is supposedly more compatiable with older players, Either works with newer players most the time, and + has a few minor advantages suposedly. I myself use all -R media because thats what I started with and never had problems.

TY media it seems everyone says is the best, though I have not yet tried it. I never had a problem with Ritek, but I am using up the last of my disks I stocked up on awhile back and I hear Ritek changed some things and now having problems with the disks.

For hub printable media I think only a few brands exist, I don't think Ritek or TY make any, not that I have found yet.

Lots of fake media out there so best to stay with a well known seller with a great reputation and that seems to be Rima.com I have bought from rima several times and never a problem. I am sure there are other good places too, but none I have bought from myself yet. I never actually had a problem anywhere I buy from and that's alot of places, but I been hearing alot about many of those places have sold some of the fake media alot, and I hear that from various places, not just here. So I stick to Rima myself.

Rima does sell a sample pack of printable media as I recall. Or you could call and ask them for a recomendation. I would, and probably will next week and order some disks myself.

  3. Verbatim makes hub printable -R and +R:
    50PK DVD-R 4.7GB 8X WHT INKJET HUB PRINTABLE SPIN
    50PK DVD+R 4.7GB 8X WHT INKJET PRINTABLE SPINDLE

Fujifilm makes -R white and silver hub printable:
    50PK DVD-R 4.7GB 8X WHT INKJET HUB PRINT SPINDLE
    50PK DVD-R 4.7GB 8X SLVR INKJET HUB PRINT SPINDLE

I believe that the Verbatim is generally thought to be better media.

The Verbatim +R 8x printables are great on the NEC 3500. Prodisc -R 8x Printables are also fantastic at an even lower price.

The Verbatim -R are equal to the Prodisc -R with the NEC 3500 (in my experience), so I wouldn't spend the extra there.

www.rima.com and www.supermediastore.com have great prices on Prodisc , and www.shopperwiz.com has great prices on Verbatims (~$33 a 50 pack for 8x IJP's). <-- and as Pudah linked, so does Page Computers. Shopperwiz will ask for a dna sample if you need something besides ground shipping :P

As long as you are using a bit setting firmware, you shouldn't see any difference between using +R and -R on that burner. If you don't have/want to use the hacked firmware, you would be better off sticking with -R media.

  5. Many thanks for the information gentlemen. It is greatly appreciated because I am tired of spending money on discs that have to be recorded below the 4 gig mark. I've tried quite a few and the waste is unbelievable. I think I will go with the Prodisc -r and see what luck I have with them. I've been using +r discs since I started a couple of years ago but I've about decided to make the change and see if that helps the situation any. Again, thanks to the both of you for your advice.
