Can i convert an AVI file to an Iso image

I have an avi file on my hard drive which i want to convert to an iso file which i can then burn to DVD disk using dvd decrypter.

I only use iso as i always have a problem trying to burn Vob files.


If their is such a program that can do this then please advise. I have tried at least five programs so far and no joy.

Do you mean. Burn the ISO then play it on your Set top DVD player? you must encode the AVI,or it wont play.

An ISO is just a image copy of a disk. it u want to convert an AVI to DVD you'll need to convert the AVI to MPEG2 first. Then author the DVD with that MPEG2 file.

Let me expand a bit on trickymans respone.
To answer your question. You cannot directly convert an AVI to an ISO image and expect it to work in any settop DVD player. HOWEVER, you can burn an avi file to dvd as a data file and then make an ISO image of that DISK. Why you would want to do that, I do not understand.
However, if as Trickymans has said, you desire to watch the AVI on your settop DVD player. Then you have to convert the AVI file into a structure compatible with your settop player. That is you must convert it into an MPEG2 (presume the goal is DVD) file, author that file into the required DVD structure and then burn those files onto an DVD. Then you will have a playable DVD. Or if you like you can then make an ISO image of that if you desire, which does make sense, to me.
This process has been covered many times and with many guides to you. Look on the left side of this screen for them.

ok guys, Thanks for prompt answers.

I have downloaded avi files to my hard drive and as i can only use decrypter to burn iso image.

After reading your responses i know realise i need to convert the iso into mpeg file.

My aim is then do make an iso of the now converted avi file into an iso to burn to dvd.

Is their one program i can use as looking at guides it mentions all kinds of programs.

If i could burn to a VCD this would be good but tried to do this with Nero but unfortunately after Nero converto to vcd the file was then 850 kb to big for 1 cd.

For some reason i can not use nero to burn any vob files it always errors.
Tried to get it fixes but no joy.
