Is it the case that TMPGenc gives you a bigger file size than other encoders at the same bitrates??
I was using Procoder, but have also tried LSX Mpeg encoder, both of which gave me about 3.2GB MPEG2 files for about 1.5 hours of footage. However, TMPGenc gave me a 5GB file at the same bitrate for the same footage.![]()

No way. Either the video length is different, or the bitrate is different. (VBR audio in the source can make TMPGEnc encode "past the end".)

As far as I know there was no VBR in the audio in the source which was a digital AVI file captured with my ADVC100.
Anyway, do people consider TMPGenc to be better than procoder? The main problem I have is I don't have a big TV screen to see how it looks. I am doubting Procoder because it seems to give me a very digitized looking image when played in a standalone on a small TV. However the same DVD played in Win DVD on my PC Looks perfect. -
There was a comparision (picturewise) between a bunch of encoders some month ago, and in my (and I think mosts) opinion, Procoder 1.5 gave the best quality by far for that particular image. Procoder 2.0 is said not to be as good IIRC. But i suspect "what's best" varies with what is encoded.
