When I plugged the thing in after slapping it together, I immediately get a message from XP saying that it will not be able to run at Hi-Speed. Even though my motherboard is a USB 2.0 compliant motherboard(VIA KT266 chipset). I believe there are 6 available on the mother board but I have only used up 4 in the back, when I plugged in this drive. Any idears?

The MB may be USB 2.0 compliant, but it may require a bios update to achieve 2.0 speeds. Consult your MB manufacturer's website.

    There could be some possibilities.

You may need to connect the power cables to the pins on the MB.

Microsoft released a usb2.0 patch to unsure compatibility.

When XP was first released, usb2.0 was not supported.

You may need to get that patch.

Are you running virgin xp? Is it SP1 or SP2?

Do you see what I am getting at?

    I've got SP2.

About this power issue? I don't think that any of the ports I am using needed this as they are integrated with the motherboard.

I am at work right now and plan on dropping by to fiddle with it after work. It is plugged into a system I have setup over at my associate's house. I've got the mouse, keyboard and UPS all plugged into the USB, as well. Maybe I need to go back to PS/2?
