I have been using Mac for may years, decrypting, compressing and burning DVDs is my favourite pastime.
I have a very strange problem now and the problem is that the Samsung DVD-Rs that i have been using for years are burning no probs but when i go to play them won't and the worse thing is when i put them in my mac it won't recognise that there is a DVD there......
I'm losing my marbles here please help.
    Thanks Scottie

Try a different media brand. I'd recommend Ritek/RiData, available online. It's also possible there is a problem with your DVD burner, but that is less likely, especially if you use Toast to burn, and allow it to verify after burning.

  8. I think this update is more of the issue, instead of media.
I went into more details at this post:
    https://www.videohelp.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=244530

The mad discussion boards on the new 10.3.6 update has alot going on there also in regards to this update.

Why would it affect how they play on standard DVD players? If Toast passes verification, the OS update should have nothing to do with how the burnt DVDs will play.

First thing I'd do is reset Open Firmware if I was having that type of trouble.
Restart holding the Com-Opt-O-F keys until you see the OF screen
    Type: reset-nvram
    Hit Return
    Type: reset-all
    Hit Return
    The machine will restart.
I did notice one change after the .6 update. I can't burn the 8x Riteks at 6x anymore. Toast gives me a media error before the burn even begins. Everything else is fine otherwise.
    Good Luck
