    Hello Again.

Thanks to all those who replied to my last post. I am almost 100% positive i am creating valid vcd disks now, though i still cannot play them back on either of my 2 dvd players (samsung 611 and jbl dvd600). The do however play flawless with ANY of the vcd players i have tried on the PC.

Hence my next question. Is there any media manufacturer out there that seems to work better than others as far as playback compatibility on a stand alone dvd player? My intention is to keep trying the various media mfgs until i find one that works or until i buy a dvd burner. I see the COMP USA generics mentioned alot.

My second question is along those same lines. Could you burn a vcd video on to a dvd disk with a regular (non dvd burner) cd recorder? And if so would this or should this elimate the media issue? I know that dvd media is signicently more expensive, by for the time being it would work for my purposes.

    Thanks in advance.

  2. To Address you second question first. The answer is NO. You can't burn on a DVD-R with a normal CD-R burner.

As for media compatibility, it is basically finding the best media that will play in your units. Are you 100% sure that your stand-alone DVD players officially support reading CD-R or CD-RW media?

If CD-R is officially supported, the player should read a vast majority of brands with little or no problems. Only a hand full may give problems (if any at all).

  3. Nope, sorry that definitely won't work. DVD-R media is completely different from any kind of CD-R...you might try CD-RWs though...some say that their increased thickness helps the DVD players read. It should say somewhere in your DVD player manuals whether or not they are compatible with VCDs. If the manuals say that your players are compatible I would go back and make sure you are making whitebook VCDs.

    Hi,
I did a check in the DVD Players compatibility list (at the LHS column of this forum page) and found that according to the following test magazine result, your machine is not compatible with CD-R or CD-RW, which I find hard to believe:

    http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/stores/detail/-/electronics/B00004TEUD/tech-data/...266844-2184949

-especially since the VCDHelp list says it IS compatible. The review says that it is VCD compatible, but I imagine that they are referring to commercial VCD only. Try and get hold of a commercial VCD, and see if it plays it OK. If yes, either your machine does not play CD-R/W VCD's, (but I'm sure I've seen posts of other owners saying that it does play them), or it's fussy about the media brand.

As a long shot, maybe Nero itself is a problem (I doubt it). I myself use Easy CD creator 4 deluxe, and my Akai ADV8000 plays anything I can throw at it.

Thanks on the dvd media question.

Both players say they support vcd format. Both state that you can use cd-r and cd-rw media. I have tested both media types in both players with regular audio files and have no problems what so ever. My thought about trying different media types seems to be supported by alot of posts i have seen on this site.

I also have a Sega DreamCast that i will eventually try as soon as i find a utopia boot program.
