While trying to convert AVI to DVD using VirtualdubMod I suddenly got an error message saying I had insufficent disk space. When I started the attempted conversion I had more that 10Gs of free space. After the event I had less than 2. The AVI was no where near completely converted. In addition I could not account for the missing disk space. The partially converted file was much smaller in size than the missing space. Has anyone else experienced something like this or have any ideas?

  2. This makes no sense...Virtual Dub (Mod or any other version for that matter) does not output to any sort of DVD file format. Are you saving the file as an uncompressed .avi? Because thats what it sounds like.
Look, let me explain something. I'm not Mr. Lebowski; you're Mr. Lebowski. I'm the Dude. So that's what you call me. That, or Duder. His Dudeness. Or El Duderino, if, you know, you're not into the whole brevity thing--

Yes to be more accurate I was saving the avi as one step in the process of converting.

How about frameserving instead from VDub to ?

    Is that possible ?

  5. Any Uncompressed .AVI file is going to be HUGE!!! DV Streams take up less space. I would just frameserve from VirtualDubMod. Wait...let me start again, there are more questions that need to be answered here. What encoder are you using to encode your DVD compliant (mpeg2) file? Why are you trying to convert an .avi file to and .avi file? Why not just open the original .avi in the encoder itself? My final question is...do you know what you are doing? I'm not trying to be a smart@ss It just seems to me that you are going about this in a rather round about way for no apparent reason.

I would suggest frameserving either directly using Virtualdub's inbuilt handler or via AVISynth scripts, directly into your favorite MPEG encoder.
    If in doubt, Google it.

I dont think it has anything to do with the program.

Same problem here doing general vhs downloads. It was my fault too as I set the "minimum disk space setting to its max of 9% of total disk space" in XP. Which was about 13GB. If I has set it to 3% it would of given me an extra 6 GB leeway.

IE this setting will not let you add to your hard drive's limited space unless you modify it.

"And do you think I can find the setting right now, to let you know what to do!!!?"

If you are still missing harddisk space read this, otherwise skip it!!!

I had 160gb drives fill up quickly even though I kept deleting the files on a video security computer.

The program was saving HUGE backup files to HIDDEN folders.

I finally found a VERY long list of 2gb files in the hidden folders.

I'm not sure if this is what you're talking about. I could NOT see the huge files that were being saved. Some programs automatically make back-ups.

If this is what is happening to you look in FOLDERS OPTIONS----VIEWS to check for hidden files.

    Maybe I misunderstood your problem!

My problem was with the program itself. It was hiding the backups.

Norton wasn't on that computer. And it's not on my other computers anymore either!!!
