  1. I am wondering if you could connect you cable to a tv then s video it out of the tv to an s video in on a dvd recorder? Would that work? or are you forced to run the cable directly to the dvd recorder?

    Thanks

    Hello,

My guess is that should work. But you might not be able to control it properly since it's not being fed through a cable box....

--Just my opinion - I don't have cable so I'm just basing this off my peripheral knowledge --

A scrambled channel would not be unscrambled until it hits your cable box.

  4. The reason i ask is that i have a cable card and HD on antenna hooked up to the tv. I cannot figure a way to get the cable card signal to the dvd recorder.

If your TV has S-Video out then connecting it along with audio cables to the DVR's inputs should give you a recordable signal when the TV is on and tuned to that channel. However, I don't know how your TV handles output of an HD input. It might not do it. Try it with both HD and regular tuner channels to see what happens. I believe my Sony XBR only sends a "monitor out" signal when the tuner is the source signal and not when using any of the line inputs, but I need to check this to be certain.

  6. Yes, mine is listed as a monitor out as well. So if that were not to work, my only other option would be to get a decoder box. that would suck becasue i got the cable card to avoid getting the box.
