  1. Hey guy's,

    I'm going to upgrade my CPU shortly (from a AthlonXP 1700+) to either an Athlon64 3000+ (http://www.newegg.com/app/viewproductdesc.asp?description=19-103-486&DEPA=1) or a Pentium 4 3.0Ghz (http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=19-116-171&depa=1).

I dont do too much gaming; mostly video editing and encoding.

I've done some research on my own but i just wanted to get some input for you guy's on this matter...

    Thanks...

  2. They are both pretty good, but for a Prescott P4 at that clockspeed, you can probably get something a little bit better than a A64 3000+ and it will have better overall performance than the P4.

    The new s939 A64 Winchesters will destroy any P4 if overclocked a little. An A64 3000+ Winchester [1.8] overclocked to 2.6 is equivelent to a P4 4.2

An since it's overclocked which increased its FSB it'll be faster than a FX-55 at stock speeds [2.6] which retails at $850.

    And here is the data:

Mind you this is a A64 (2331 MHz) vs P4 (4163 MHz). The AMD is on a STOCK cooler and the Intel is on a VAPO (those that don't know what it is, it's a compressor which cools the processor at around -50 C)

Now the AMD is at 2.3 imagine mine which is at 2.6? Can you say 4.3-4.4?
