In order to be eligible for a promotion at my job I had to pass the PE exam.
I work at an enviromental company and as far as I know its seems that only consulting firms (esp environmental ones) or state govenments are the only real people that care about having this certification.
I passed the Chemical Engineer exam so I can hopefully get a promotion soon![]()

anything regarding rigging and hanging and pretty well anything in building structures would have to be stamped by a PE ..

I used to be registered PE in Washington DC (electrical). I'd say that all the time I put into it was a waste. At least I passed the test the first time I took it. I think I got a tiny raise that only lasted a couple of months before I quit engineering altogather (a totally dead end field in general).

I am currently registered as a professional engineer in Alberta (used to be registered in British Columbia and in Ontario).
For many companies it is their policy that only the department heads stamp drawings - this was the case when I worked in Ontario. We pushed to have two stamps (the head and the designer) so that the names of the designers get known. I believe the company started to follow that procedure just after I left their firm.
Even if you do not stamp it still helps the firm out to have the P.E.'s on staff.
