I have a Qwestar QS 100 (actually an oritron DVD100) with firmware revision 007 that I got for christmas - luckily, I find out, that though the person giving it to me was cheap, I was able to hack this thing to play all regions and play VCD's (the firmware 003 hacks worked)! Though I am having some problems and wondered if anyone would be able to help out:
VCD:
I did the VCD hack and I can get 2.0 VCD's to play on it - sort of. What happens is, playback will be fine for a while, but every now and then the video will freeze, then a couple seconds later the audio stops, then in about another second, they both pick up again sync'd as usual and continue playing. The kicker is that these hangups don't happen at the same spots. If I rewind and play it again, it will play the same segment that just froze fine, while another portion will freeze where it did not before.
For reference, I am using Nero 5.5.24, a yamaha external 8x4x24 burner, and encoding to standard VCD using TMPEG (I think version 2.02.something). I burn the discs at 4x, haven't tried burning at 2x or 1x, does anyone think this might solve it? Or is there something else I might be overlooking?
SVCD:
Also, I've read these players don't support SVCD--HOWEVER--when I put a TMPEG encoded SVCD into the thing, here's what happens. The disc reads, and then the video starts to roll (black and white). Through the dizziness of this rolling I can see that the player's status says "SVCD" (just as it would say "VCD 2.0" or "DVD" depending on what's put in). The thing plays, but the audio is consistently choppy (1 sec audio, .5 sec pause). I have no idea about if the video is doing the same because of the rolling. Is this a player problem, and encoding problem, or what? Or, is there a hack for this too? It seems to me that it's trying to throw the video output into a mode that my TV just doesn't like.. maybe a bad refresh rate or something.. I'm no expert.
And one further thing, I've been experimenting with trying throw a cDVD (miniDVD) into this thing but I've been running into roadblocks trying to author a DVD (stupid DVDit). My question isn't about DVDit, it's more, has anyone tried miniDVD's on this unit, should I stop wasting my time? I'd personally love the ability to be able to throw low-bandwidth encoded DVD's onto these mini's (mostly for menuing purposes).
Thanks, I'm a total newbie, but I've learned a lot in the past 3 days I've been playing with this.. and I want it to work!! I have TV shows that must be archived!

I have this problem too. It is trying to play the NTSC SVCD in PAL format.
There is a menu selection to change the VCD output (PAL/NTSC) but not one for SVCD. Does anyone know how to fix this? -
I am not able to play MP3 disks on my Qwestar MVP 360 DVD player.
