Problems backing up certain DVDs

I just bought a DVDR drive a few months ago (TDK... Im not at home so I don't know the model number) and finally started backing up some of my DVDs. I have been using DVD Decrypter and DVD Shrink to decrypt/compress/re-author/burn as needed. Most of the backups have worked great. The Perfect Storm, The Punisher, Jurrasic Park... have all worked great, some I split into two discs and others I compressed. When I tried to backup Friday the 13th (the older release) it was dvd5 so straight copy was all that was needed. When I put it into my standalone DVD player (cheap RCA model) I had a problem much like this one.

I don't know how to post links so I hope that works. What happens is the audio will stop and the picture will freeze for 10 to 20 seconds and then start again and play for 10 to 20 seconds and freeze again...ect...ect. I notice on my reciever that it keeps switching between Dolby Digital and either Dolby Surround or Stereo. It is like the Dvd player isnt sending a pure digital signal to the reciever or it cannot lock onto the audio track. I tried screwing with the inputs on the reciever with no luck and the dvd player is worthless and cannot select or deselect audio output types.
I tried to reauthor Friday the 13th with only the DD track but the same thing happened. I also noticed this on the older Predator release and on Dirty Harry. I have not had a chance to try these backups on other dvd players. If anybody has any suggestions I would appreciate them.

Most likely suggestion is try changing your media, what could play in yours may not play on a friends as well, down to media choice again ....

Also, if you are burning at x4, try dropping it down to x2, it can make some difference to your media problems

I personally use Ritek G04 ink jet printable white top and also RiData Ritek G04, since changing to these I don't have any problems like I had before

Thanks for the info and reminder. I have only used two types of media (TDK and maybe sony DVD+R) and both have made working backups, although I only had one brand of blanks around when I tried the movies that wouldn't work. I dont understand why one type of media would make a difference for a certain movie but when I get home I will have to give it a try with different media. It seems to be the older movies that I have trouble with, possibly movies whose audio track was not originally encoded in dolby digital.
