  1. Did the GQ, cheap media thing for a while: got skipping, et.. Learned my mistake there.

Just bought Fujifilm media that DVDinfo says is made by Yuden in Japan. SO, the media is good.

Burned 3 discs and EACH ONE will not play in the Toshiba DVD player. Instead it tries to read for a while, then kicks it out saying "Disc Error". Why the Toshiba would play the crap media and not the Fuji?

    HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  2. Is the media + or -? Is your DVD player compatible with that format? You can find this out by looking it up in the "DVD Players" section over the left-hand side of your page.

  3. If you use +R with Toshiba DVD players it MUST have DVD-ROM booktype...same for Panasonic,Pioneer and JVC.

My older JVC 510BK does not require DVD-ROM booktype...plays + and - too.

  5. I don't know what a booktype is, sorry.

The Toshiba SD-K625 has played the GQ DVD+R just fine (minus the skips), but can't read the Fujifilm. According to the DVD player information on the left for this player, Fuji should be OK.

I spent another $30 on media, here, expecting easy burns, finally. What do I do to get good, cross-platform media that works?????!!!

  6. Take a disc that doesn't work in your player to a local BestBuy and try it on their players. If it plays then you have a player problem so buy another one they are cheap.

  7. The player is a good player. It has played all of my DVD+Rs so far. Now it won't play the "Good Media".

I shouldn't have to spend a lot of money attempting every kind of media to find one that burns well (no skipping), but will play on different DVD payers.

I haven't changed anything, except the media. Why would a player play cheap, unreliable media and not the good stuff?

It's the newer generation of JVC DVD PLAYERS that do not support DVD+R media.

  9. sounds like your player isnt really up for +r media.
    did you try the -r.
my LG dvd player will play +R,but not without skips,no matter what brand i use.but -R plays flawlessly, every time.
and as for ,you shouldnt have to spend loads,to get it to work, then you should have bought maybe one or two tester discs from a retailer,or at least got a single disc to try, many shops sell disc test packs, containing a selection of brands, and types.
this way your not wasting money.

  11. OK - updated my firmware. It now that the 8x media can only burn at 6.1x. ?

I guess I'll try some DVD-R. Why would other DVD+R work and not this stuff?

  12. Don't use DVD+R media. Most DVD players, especially older ones, have trouble playing it, or won't play it at all. Use DVD-R, made in Japan media, and burn at 4x max.

  13. I bought some DVD-R media this evening: Fujifilm and Maxell. The Toshiba player plays, but skips around like crazy. I guess it could be the player, but I'm still confused why it would like the GQ, cheap stuff and not the expensive. Oh, well. Thanks for the help, anyway.

  14. Moviegeek - I started researching about "BookType". I'll try anything.

How do I change the BookType? Do I need Nero?

What I have is: Roxio and DVD Decrypter. I also downloaded DVD Bitsetter, but I can't figure out how to use it correctly, sorry.
