  8. or

take it back to the rental place and tell them you couldn't rip it, so you would like a credit back on your account or another disc that is ripable

disclaimer: never rip rentals or friends, only discs you own

So you have an error on the disk like maybe a scratch. You can use DVDDecrypter and tell it to ignore the errors.

But what will that do to the quality of the picture?

You'll get a glitch (distorted image) were the error occurrs, and maybe a few of them depending on how bad it is.

Have you tried ripping it with any other ripping programs like Decrypter or Shrink?

As Thunder In Paradise states, try ripping it with other programs.

I find that whenever one ripper cannot rip a movie, i try other rippers too, chances are other rippers may well rip the disc without problems.

DVD Decrypter is my favorite one, and rarely have problems using it. DVD Shrink also does the job. these are freeware rippers. there are some trailware rippers you may want to try, such as dvd2one, dvd remake, clonedvd etc..

if problem still persists, then the most most likely cause is a strached disc in the area where you cant rip.

  15. I had exactly the same problem with CTHD using DVD Shrink. Tried ripping files to hard disk with DVD Decrypter then DVD Shrink to re-encode. Still would not read files. Used CloneDVD to re-encode files from HDD.
