By the way, I've never posted news before so go easy on me, and I did read Baldrick's post on how to post news.

Yes, they are lowering the prices, but first they RAISED them!!! It was earlier this year.

I've been using Netflix for a long time and don't have any complaints, but the quick up-and-down with the prices is a bit strange.

Doubtful that I would rent from Amazon's new DVD service, so I hope Netflix sticks around for a while.

Glad I didn't own any Netflix stock. Yikes!!!

Usually competition is a good thing. Netflix adjusted their prices and also started pulling broken discs out of service. That was a big problem for me a while ago.

Occasionally I rent cartoons and some of them are filthy and scratched. Hey kids, tell mom and dad to handle those disc with care!

  5. 2 at a time 4 a month for 11.99?

Does that really mean that that I can only rent 4 movies a month from netflix?!?!?!

what kind of deal is that. The local grocery story has a better deal than that? Gotta be domething I am missing....

  7. I have the "MVP Club" for Hollywood Video.

It's worked out great for me so far. It's only $15 per month (and only for $10 for the first 3 months).

You can have 3 out at a time, and as many as you want during the month...jus' in case anyone wanted my 2 cents on the subject

  10. NETFLIX helped kick off a great new era of "NO-Surcharges"... awesome idea.... why should I be penalized for using a service??? Yes, the price jump did irritate me a little, but I got over it... Now, prices are coming back down? great. I'll still use this service over BB or HV for the simple reasons i've had to pay those jerks to many times for having a busy schedule and not returning a movie on time (that just sat on a shelf anyways)... Netflix has MOST of the titles I look for, plus take suggestions for new movies. The turn around rate is within 3 to 4 days, so if you stay on top of it, you are getting a good deal. Plus with at least netflix, there have been issues with dvd's getting lost in the mail... All you have to do is tell them, and a replacement, or your next movie is sent that day. Gotta love it!

Johnny CNote thanks for the tip on dvdbarn. Question on their service. I know they guarantee 1 day delivery once shipped but how long does it take to receive your dvds back and then how long does it take them to ship? One day delivery doesn't mean much if it takes 2, 3, 4 days for them to recieved your returns and then another 2,3,4 days for them to ship. With Netflix if I return discs today, they recieve and ship them tomorrow and I get them day after tomorrow. That is because I have a distribution center where I live, Chattanooga, TN. The problem with Netflix is that about 2 or 3 times a month I know they intentionally delay shipments of my discs in order to improve their "cost per disc" with my account. This really upsets me so I am looking for an alternative to Netflix for this very reason. Thanks for your reply.
    Thank You,

I got crappy service from this outfit. There was a problem with my shipping address and they never notified me about this. I sent hem several emails before they responded. I was with them for two weeks and never got a single disc. Furthermore, you cannot send them an email directly. You send them an email to customer service and then then they send another one saying you cannot do that, you must send one to *this* address. I don't say this lightly, but they suck.

I know every company, no matter how well run, will eventually screw up with at least one customer and maybe it was my turn. I've had nothing but problems with them, as outlined in another post in this thread. I waited for two weeks before I complained (holidays/ weekends, etc.) about not receiving discs. When I did complain, they told me there was a problem with my shipping address. Had I not complained, they would have never informed me. Their customer service is a nightmare. Would not refund my membership fee either. It has been three months and I still get spammed by them telling me to update my rental queue. These geniuses haven't figured out I'm no longer a member. If they let you have a free month, it might be worth it but they'll never see another dime from me.

  14. I only used DVDBarn during a free trial a while back, so I can't vouch for their service as it is currently. However, I'd be willing to try it again.....

  17. I used DVDBarn for two months, and during those two months I received a grand total of 4 movies from my que. None of the movies in my que said out of stock or not available. Repeated emails and phone calls went unanswered. I did finally get hold of someone in customer service, and they told me that they were undergoing a big change and yada yada yada. Whatever. I had the 4 at a time deal and that was all I got in two months. I cancelled before they could charge my third month. I wouldn't go back to them if they offered free service for life and instant delivery. Stay with Blockbuster or Netflix. The Barn stinks.

BB now lists $17.49 for 3 at a time. Netflix says theirs will be lower on Nov.1. I checked the BB site for some of my Netflix queue and only found about two thirds of them. I look at mostly old and foreign films. The BB site is much harder to use, I think. But I still might try them.
