Ebay will charge you an insertion and final value fees for whatever you sell. Paypal will charge you a certain percentage on money people send you. They have three account types I think: Basic, Premier and Business. Bidpay is out there as well but I never looked into it...

BidPay is a Western Union money order - buyer pays for it.

if you don't want to pay PayPal fees, don't offer PayPal as an option.... but you will have to deal with the wait for another form of payment, and you will have fewer bidders overall.

I avoided PayPal for a long time, but I find as a seller it's worth the charge to get the payment faster, and I find that I make more sales overall - there are a lot of people who won't buy anything if they have to send a physical payment in the mail.

think of it this way - you could sell everything without paying any fees at a yard sale - but you wouldn't have millions of potential buyers and a weeks' worth of display time in your front yard....

  5. I like PayPal. More people will bid on your stuff if they can use Paypal because of the buyer protection feature and the ability to use and/or accept credit cards. And it is FAST. Money is available right away. Just build a small amount in your minimum starting bid to cover the fees.

Paypal is a bit easier for me and I sell & buy there all the time. There is a page on paypal that tells you the percentages they take out. I just add that percentage to my shipping fee along with eBay costs. it isn't really expensive, unless you're selling a lot of expensive items. Paypal also accepts credit cards, so I don't have to send or receive credit card information myself, but still allow people to use their CC to pay for an item. Allows more security for people and myself.

  7. I don't get any extra charges when I buy something from Ebay & use Paypal.... But if I sell something.....gotta figure that in. Frankly, compared to local auction studios, PP & ebay fees are dirt cheap.

I agree. Even if you don't factor it into your sale, it's barely anything to worry about unless you're selling a lot of expensive items.

Agreed. I love it because of the protection.

I got scammed on E-bay once - the item wasn't as advertised. I notified PayPal and they froze the guy's entire account until I got a refund
