At long last my tiny town as a broadband option, its a wireless provider, and its NOT the one in the area I was hopeing for. They are expensive for the speed they offer ($40 for 256k, or $75 for 512k) but hell after all this time I'm willing to go for it.

Wow, I thought Internet in North America was very cheap?

    I just changed my provider, who offered 768/128 for 47€ (60$), now I've got 1024/512 for 60€ (76$).

I feel for you. After being on cable for two years, I had to go to dialup for a year because of where we lived. Moved 12 miles from there, and now I was able to 3M DSL for $40/mo. I average around 19 Meg a minute for dowloads. A typical MP3 takes around 7 seconds. 8)

At those speeds, it's amazing how fast you can fill a drive with porn!

Is it bad that I had my phone service set up a month early just so DSL would be ready the day I moved in?

Imagine how many replies we could send Northie before he could submit one on that dialup. We could lose him in a heartbeat! :P

I personally think dial-up is much more offensive that the f-word or bastards. But it could be just me.

I agree. I was pretty upset that during the time my DSL was supposed to get activated SBC went on strike. Their petty problems are not nearly as important as my internet connection.

Wow! My respect for you grows more and more as I learn more about you..... You actually go online at 26.4??????

I connect at an average of 44kbps at home... It's very decent for $10 a month with a package deal from SBC..

Someday I'll fork over the dough for broadband and then you'll see.... I'll hit 10,000 posts in under a month!!

  25. Web pages aren't much faster for me with DSL 756k, than dialup. But downloads are much faster. esp. with Newsbin, which gives me about 756k x 8, as it opens 8 connections @ the same time.

    No kidding

I saw a kit on sale that was a cradle/base station for a cell phone. It plumbed the cell phone into the existing house phone wiring and allowed you to use the extension phones to place and receive calls. Prettty clever and allows you to sever your ties with the land line highway robbers
