  1. I have a Lvw 5101 and burnt a DVD+R and it wont play in my Apex 1110w. I took the CD I made to Circut City and it played in one of there DVD players. From what I can see on this site my Apex 1110w should play this type of format.. I used Imation and TDK DVD+R's. and both fail to read in the Apex but do read in the Liteon that made them.. I did make sure to finalize the cd so that's not the problem. Could it be this Apex just won't play them.. Or is this Liteon junk? are there mods for these two players that i need? any info would be helpfull thanks....

  4. I have a Apex AD800 it plays the DVD+RW I created from LVW-5101 ok.

I think the problem may be the common spacing issue. My Apex AD800 can not play a DVD+R or RW if it does fill up at least 3Gbyte of the data (some DVD player require only 1Gbyte), once I have a DVD+RW fill up over 3Gbyte of data, it plays great. Also if you used a disc that was used before with over 3Gbyte of data and erase it, it work fine too with small amount of data. I believe this is something to do with the read head search design or something similar to that.

I believe Lite-On also has a function call "Compatable", I think it's on the setup menu, disc-operation, there is a option called "Comp". I think it will try to fill up the disk when you use the Comp function. Good luck!

  5. eastman 1,
Very good information. Thanks a lot. Now I know the purpose of the "compatable" option on my 5101.

  6. Hey Tom,

How coincident! I was planning to post a reply to your comments on the Ilo DVDR04 regarding the compatability issues. Gald you have already seen my post here.

Anyhow we are in the same boat. I got both machines in my house last night too.

In my opinions, I like Ilo DVDR04 better than Lite-On 5101, because the more sharp DVD output than Lite-on, this is what care most. I am keeping Ilo and returning Lite-On.

But I have two issues with Ilo DVDR04.
    1. Cable-In interference. (I can live with it, because I can always route from my VCR).
    2. DV recording throught 1934 no audio sound, it records ok, but during the recording, you can not monitor the audio. I am contacting Ilo for solution.

    Cheer!

  7. Michael,
I have found that the 5101 and the 04 have just about the same sharpness. I found by an A/B comparison that using an s-video connection from my source ( LD player or s-video VCR) gave a better picture with less color smear and less crawling dots. Same excellent resolution on both.

Just curious, from what source are you checking the "sharpness" of the recording??

  8. Tom,

I agree with you, both machines have identical sharpness DVD output through the test (DV input, VCR input, Cable input). The only difference is the 5101 unit itself output port. Here is what I got.

    1. If I play a footage recorded from 04 at 04 machine, the image looks great.
    2. If I play a footage recorded from 5101 at 5101, the image looks a little bit blur (un-noticable) and slight noticeable red color tone.
    3. But if I put the disc from #1 and #2 onto my Apex AD800, they look identical.

  9. Looks like you are having more fun with this than I am.

I've called Liteon 3 times and they have always been very helpful and not "talked down" to me.

Let us know what you find out.
