No way. Why go back to moving tape across a fixed head, having to clean and demag the head, eating tapes, etc? :P

    Hell no.

I would estimate that I have used my cassette player less than 10 times since I purchased a CD Burner in 1999.
    If in doubt, Google it.

Is this for data backup like the old commodore vic 20 and commodore 64 computers? Man do I miss those days... nothing like typing out a 200 line program and saving it, only to have it lost on a crappy cassette tape.

    Seriously, why?

I can always run a line in from one of my tape decks and record onto my pc that way.

This is just a step backwards.

How about an eight track player?

Well I suppose if you do a LOT of tape to mp3 transfers it might be useful!

if I could find it for $20 or so, I probably would - I have a bunch of stuff that I still need to transfer from cassette, and the way I have my gear set up, it's a bitch.

    Hello,

Though, I have just hooked up a walman through its headphone jack to dub. The quality is good enough to make decent mp3's. I guess if you have an open 5 1/4 drive $20 might be worth it.

you laugh - I have a couple of rare & strange 8-tracks that I still need to convert to digital....

yoda - I've got a setup to do it, it's just a pain, more due to the location of my tape deck than the connections. and even if I have a cassette Walkman (I think all of mine are cd), I wouldn't use the headphone outs for dubbing, I'd still need something with a line-level output.

Most cassettes were also on LP. I'd rather have the LP.

  27. I have a very large cassette collection...homemade stuff not available anywhere just itching to be transfered. I would probably get it if it handled high bias tapes...which it doesn't. I am still looking for a good single well cassette deck that won't break the bank

I have an old tape that I keep meaning to trasfer to MP3 thats a friends band from back in highschool. This woudl work great, at the same time a walkman and a cable would work great also. But that drive IS cool, its just too expensive.

I prefer walkmen that are designed to have the least amount of tape handling. Most of those players handle the tape too much, and eat the tapes a lot ... this is not unrelated.
