Hi,
I have made a movie in 852x480 format to a specific plasma display, but in the last moment I was notified, that they'll use a DVD player to play that....
i have a 852x480 movie, but the PAL DVD use 720x576.... I'll need to keep the aspect ratio, it has to be 16:9, and the best quality possible...
If I downcode to keep the aspect ratio and be able to use tmpgenc to encode, it should be 720x416.... so the aspect ratio is correct....
what should I do:
- to keep aspect ratio
- keep the best quality
- an be 16:9
thanks

This is simple enough. You've confused (and this is easily done) resolution with aspect. It does not matter what the resolution is, as long as the video is encoded in a certain aspect. So, set TMPGEnc for PAL DVD and set the aspect to 16:9, encode the DVD and away you go.
If you feel like experimentation, encode a one minute sample and author to a DVD-RW.
As for quality - you can set the motion search precision higher, but this adds a lot to the encoding time for not much gain. I usually set it to High (Highest is a real waste of time). If your source is noisy, use the noise reduction filter. Noise takes a lot of data to try and encode - the more you remove the more data you have to "spend" on the rest of the image. This filter will also substantially increase your encoding time.
Have a shot and see how you get on. Good luck!

Thanks for the fast reply....
I've set the aspect to 16:9... that's ok
So I need to select 720x576... reencode and it should be ok, with no loss of any parts of the image?
