Howdy. There are a few different recorder speeds just like on the ole' VHS tapes
XP speed = 1 hour of video (704x480)
SP speed = 2 hour of video (704x480)
LP speed = 4 hour of video (352x480)
EP speed = 6 hour of video (352x240)
Next to the speeds I put the resolution for each of those speeds VHS quality is 352x480 (roughly). The sp mode is just a lower bitrate, however, at the same resolution.
You have a couple of questions. 1)the copy on EP looks different. My answer would be to record at either XP or SP. Anything less and picture quality suffers.
2) My personal experience (I own the E30 model) is that the resulting dvds do not play in a lot of the other standalone dvd players. Others on the board have mentioned that they have played fine in theirs though.
What other dvd players do you have? If you look on the left under dvd writers, you can find your model dvd recorder and see what other folks have said.
