  1. I encoded 4.46gb of video into mpg. I tried using TMPGenc Author to make the dvd files to burn but it's saying I went over the dvd limit, it's saying the file size is 4.66. Is there anyway around this? I'd really rather not re-encode all of this again...

Let TMP make the files then open them in DVD Shrink 3.2 and let Shrink compress the disc to an ISO you can then burn. The re-encode in Shrink should only take about 10 minutes or so on a fast machine.

You have to remember that there are overheads to a DVD, including extra files, that are above and beyond just the video. DVD-R and DVD +R both have different block sizes to you HDD, so the same files take up slightly more space once burned as well.

    Hi boogie-pop,

Before encoding (and so before choosing the bitrate) check out the VideoHelp Bitrate Calculator in "Advanced Mode" - this'll give you a good guide as to what the overheads will be.

Note: This does not include menus etc. during authoring.
