    Interesting. You are correct, ESS chip. A recorder with an LSI chip would be better. Guess the daytek(LiteOn 5001) was the better model. Too bad futureshop dropped it.

    The ESS chip is not an LSI chip, but it is decent when used properly. I've been pleased from what I see out of my friend's SANYO recorder. Not too shabby. Not really any worse than LiteON, and the 3-hour is the "cherry spot" of that SANYO. It stands up pretty well to the LiteOn and Pioneer, up to 3 hours.

    Futureshop where I am still has the DP-30 at $249CAD...

    I might buy one to free up things that I can't record between the 2 sat systems and the 1 E80H. I have 23 DVD+RWs now so they can get some extra use...
