My friend and I buy the star wars trilogy together, we split the cost 50/50. I make a backup. The other keeps the original.
Is it okay if we are roomates for me to keep the backup
or is it okay if we live in seperate homes and i keep the backup
If i keep the backup copy, can I watch it or does he have to bring the original copy to my house so I can watch the backup copy. -cheers

  5. Right. I don't think the copyright laws allow for the concept of Joint Tenancy.

This sounds like a question for adam.

Okay if that's true, probably your correct. How about if I find a dvd no one claims the item. It becomes my property. Can I than make a backup, though I did not purchase it.

  7. Another good question.

I would say 'no' on this one as well, since copyright permission often infers an exchange of money for the permission itself. It would be a challenge for me to think outside the box on that one, since I don't see how copyright could be conveyed without it.

So if I win a dvd collection let say from warner brothers. I cannot make a copy because I won the item. If I spent money to win the item does that include a purchase and alow me a backup.

  10. Making a copy so two people can have one is illegal. If you win something it becomes your property - can the person who you won it from take it back? No. Therefore, fair use should still apply.

    This is my opinion only.

I think the same is true if finding it. It is now your property ...you legally own it because you found it.

Just as long as you didn't "find" it on someone's car seat I think you're safe.

I think garman made a breakthrough!!

    Follow me:

If we all contributed to the purchase of one original, everyone in the world could make a copy!

    I'll be sending my contribution of 20 € / 6.000.000.000 = 3E-09 €

    Anyone else wants to join?
