first off, what kind of card?
Generally most Hauppage(sp?), ATI, nad STB TV cards work fine under Windows 9x, newer models work under Win2k too.
for most TV cards that offer capture ability you need the following:
VirtualDub
lots-'o-diskspace
Huffyuv 2.x codec *OR* Divx-4 codec
TMPGEnc v2.x
install hyffy codec, and divx codec
start up virtualdub, set the capture source to your TV card (FILE --> Capture / VIDEO --> Source...)
--under VIDEO --> Compression
-----select the compression method you would like to use (I use huffy, it's lossless but uses buttloads of diskspace.
capture the video (one of the function keys F6?)
hit ESC to stop capture when video is done.
crop out stuff at beginning and end of video you don't want to save
FILE --> SAVE AS --> Some file.avi
if you saved in huffy format, you can convert to MPEG2/Mpeg1-VCD using TMPEnc.
Hope this helps...

mol3000,
1 - you might have an audio card | check those two plugs colors, red/white? (Its an AUIDO)
2 - if one of the phone plugs is YELLOW, then it's an Video in
That usually is the order of things.
Audio = Red / White
Video = Yellow
. . .as in my wintv pci or my ati-tv wonder has the above.
If you find that you don't have an capture card, and you are STILL interested
in captuirng, etc. Then, you'll need to pick one up.
In any case, you'll need to decide on HOW you want to capture to:
* AVI
* or, Real-time mpeg1/2
* or, Hardware mpeg1/2 or MJPEG via AVI (still AVI format for mjpeg, but small AVI size)
.
.
. . .and, if its AVI or MJPEG, then you'll want to decide on what type of
encoding you want to do:
* MPEG 1 (VCD) (can be good quality)
* MPEG 2 (VCE / SVCD) (can be better quality)
* DivX (whatever) (can be crap or better), but can't be burned to CD directly.
* other (PC)
Use the search button at the top for to find out more on these items and
also check the links to your left. That's what they are there for. -
