  1. I have an iMac 17" 800MHz. and thought that hooking it up to my TV would be a piece of pie. But, to my surprise it has no S-video port. So what do I do? I bought an adapter ofcourse the mini-DVI to Video adapter. The problem is that the adapter wont fit my computer It only fits with the 1GHz. verion of iMac and not my old 800MHz.

    Now I dont know what to do????

    Ideas? Anyone?

    Thanx in advance

    El Cris

    Do you have any sort of video out, like composite? You can buy an adapter to go from that to s-video:

  3. See Cappy that's the thing. It only has a port that apple calls "monitor mirror" whatever that means.

    (I know that I can "mirror" my monitor on another monitor and that this port is the one to use for that purpose, but I'm not sure if the port can do much more)

    I believe you have the same problem discussed here;

    Basically, you're one revision away from easily connecting to a TV with S-Video. Apple made changes to the motherboards in later models that allow the adaptors to work. I have the same problem with the last model PMG4. The G5s can use an inexpensive adaptor, the PMG4s need a different Graphics Card or external box. Sucks....

    Sorry I always forget that you can not link to the Apple store because the session will time out. Just type M8639G/A on the search window in the Apple Store and you will get the adapter that you need to be able to use a Computer to Video Converter.

    That will allow you to use one of the devices that Ulapines suggested. It is the only way you can connect your iMac to a TV .

  12. Thanx y'all I still dunno if I'm going to do this. Since it looks like it's a somewhat expensive solution. So maybe I might end up buying a new computer later on.

  13. lemme explain myself. I live in Denmark (Though Im not from DK). And around here things are rather expensive. Actually it would be fair to say that they are A LOT more expensive than the US. The other day I spotted this really cool 10 meter cable with RCA and S-video contacts at a great price. What a bargin. I thought and paid the $38. Now I thought that I could just buy the Mini-DVI adapter (another $38, I told you it was expensive) and I would be able to watch my home-made flicks on my TV. But now I have to invest God nows how much. (Im guessing about $200) And suddenly my bargin cable turned out to be quite an expensive venture =(

    (But I guess in the end I'll end up coughin it up anyway, what good would that cable be if not)

    Maaan ... you need to shop around online Even a 10 metre cable shouldn't be costing much more than $15 or so (for instance 6m one here for $14.95, but that was just the first one I found).

  16. The thing is that if I buy something abroad. I still have to pay Danish VAT on it. And that's when the price goes bananas!

    Hrm how does that work? Do you have to declare everything you buy on the internet? Or do they charge you when you collect it at the post office? Do they open it and look for an invoice so they know how much to tax? (This is where you involve a foreign friend with a decent printer ).
