  1. I think my subject heading says it all.
Let's gather a list. I, so far, had not find one. But I heard one of the Prodisc version 8x DVD+R media did make it in 5 minutes. All I can say is WOW.

Oh, and don't forget to note if it is DVD+ or DVD- .

I've burned prodisc R03 (8x) with the pioneer 108 (f/w1.14) at 8x. I do not understand why one would like to increase the speed. I was not able to get good results. I've tried many and really, they had big bad ugly PI/PIF scans and bad read scans as well. Just for fun I'll try one at max speed. It can't get worst anyway. :P

  3. I think you'll find no 8X media is going to burn at 16X with official 1.14fw. 12X is possible with a variety of media. 16X for all media is possible with hacked firmware.

Actually I'm wrong, apparently Sony/TDK/Maxell 8X media can be burnt at 16X unfortunetly I don't own any of this media types so I can't confirm this.

I don't understand how a few minutes burning time difference is worth risking dye melt and squirrely burns ...unless someone is illegally duping a whole bunch of copies as a sideline. WTF difference does it make if it takes 15 or 10 minutes for a burn, especially when pushing media past its speed is asking for trouble. It's been a mystery to me. I keep asking why on this forum, but I never have received an answer. Maybe the babes are impressed when you tell them "hey, I'm burning my 8X at 12X. Is that cool or what?" Somehow I don't think that'd impress anyone.

I'm sorry if I sound judgmental, but it just seems foolish to me, intentionally jeopardizing the success of the final media just to save a few minutes that don't matter a whit in the scheme of things. But maybe I'm missing some mysterious benefit besides just the time it takes to go take a leak

  5. Not managed 16X yet... But done a 12X using ANV Riteks GO5 dye.... Trouble is it only saved 10 secs over burning the self same file at 8X not worth the effort if you ask me.
There is a list on Pioneers site detailing which brands will burn at what speeds...
I have already posted a link to it 3 times.....

    Bingo. You got it! :P
I cannot do quality burn with these R03. I've tried at 8x and at 4x. I know that they will only be worse at increase speed.

On the other hand, if one can have a good quality burn at 8x, then why not? if you have a lot of burning, you will save almost half the time (8min instead of 15min), which is good.
Personally, I never burn at higher speed than what's the media is designed for. Even then, if there is a significant increase in quality, I'll reduce the speed

  7. Capmaster,

You may think that we are being silly trying to squeeze the extra minutes out of burning a DVD. Isn't that the point of all this? I don't know about you; but I would love to decrease my burn time from 14 mins (burn at 4x) to about 8 mins (using 8x burner and 8x media) so I can sit their stare at my screen with the extra 6 mins i have left . Isn't that GREAT?

If I can decrease my burn time from 8 mins to 5 mins using the same 8x burner and 8x media ... THAT IS EVEN BETTER.

TELL ME (pardon my CAPS), YOU ARE HERE TO LEARN TO DUPLICATE (ONE OF THE REASONS) YOUR DVD RIGHT? EVEN WHEN IT COSTS ABOUT $5 - $10 TO BUY NOW ADAY. BUT YOU ENJOY ACCOMPLISHING "SOMETHING". ME TOO AND MOST THE MEMBERS OF THIS FORUM. IF YOU DON'T THINK IT MAKES A DIFFERENCE TO BURN A DVD FOR 10 MINS. OR 15 MINS. THEN YOU SHOULD STICK TO YOUR ORIGINAL 1X BURNER. THAT SURELY SAVES ALOT OF UPGRADING MONEY.

Same can be said of speeding in ur car, which I'm guessing you have done from time to time. To drive the 70 miles to buy a pack of bologna you drive at 70 mph, it takes you an hour. Sneaky Pete drives at 60mph, which is the posted speed limit and it takes him an hour and 10 min. Does that 10 minutes seem worth it to get a speeding ticket, fine, possible accident, more gasoline usage, points on ur lic., court time maybe,$$$, all to get that bologna 10 minutes earlier than pete.

People do it, I do it, he does it and I'm sure you do it. We all do it!!

Ahhh, but going 70 instead of 65 in my car doesn't put the car at risk of dying a violent death, unless I was driving it in first gear Not the best analogy jaxxboss <waits patiently for the "I farted">

Thanks guys. I really wasn't trying to be a prick. And burning at a higher speed does not cause a violent death neither. Ergo.........................................

Here is another super trick to impress all your friends.

Let's say you want to burn a DVD Video
50-55% compression with dvd shrink reduce to 3gb.
Once files are completed, you perform another 50-55% compression with dvd shrink on the already compressed files. You're now at 1.5gb
You will then be able to burn in less than 4 minutes.

As long as you never play this movie
