I was wondering what role the graphics card plays in creating a DVD. I'm running a Pentium 4 with 512 mb and a decent (not great) quality graphics card. When ripping/editing/burning a DVD, how important is the graphics card? Thanks.

Very little at all.
The only impact the vid card has on these is if you need to view the video stream while you are editing, you will need to see the frames. Other than that, the vid card doesn't do much. When ripping/editing/burning a DVD
The vid card is somewhat important for playback, but even then, processor power is more important as it allows you to run ffDshow filters. A lot of people run dedicated HTPCs with overclocked Anthlon 64s or Pentium EEs and run lowly radeon 8500s.

Graphic card plays no role in making a dvd except to see what you are doing.

Some graphics cards have playback assist through hardware decoders, which can give you a better picture with less CPU overhead - of no use when encoding disks. There are graphics cards that have mpeg1,2 and 4 encoder chips built-in, which can speed up encoding at capture time, but may not have the same flexibility as software encoders for tweaking quality.

My GeForce card died a few months ago and I've been using
THIS BAD BOY with no problems for a while now. I can't remember what I paid for it at the time, but it wasn't this good a deal
Your mileage may vary however, depending on your system."There is nothing in the world more helpless and irresponsible and depraved than a man in the depths of an ether binge, and I knew we'd get into that rotten stuff pretty soon." -- Raoul Duke
