I would like to get some scenes form certain dvd's I got without ripping the entire film in the simplest fewest possible steps.
I decode vob's using smart-ripper to local drive, then use dvd2avi to make the selection of video I want, save project and encode using tmpgenc.
With default settings (mpeg2) once video is encoded I get interlacing problems I think, like this: http://www.hometheaterhifi.com/volume_7_4/images/dvd-benchmark-part-5-comb_galaxy_quest_small.gif
Without trying to understand the concepts of interlacing is there a quick fix I can do to help solve this problem?(end file is to be viewed on pc not tv)

Hi mostin5000,
I believe DVDShrink allows you to specify start and stop points in a film. You can then re-author at 100%.
Disclaimer: I may be wrong with the tool, but I think that's right. Anyone confirm this?
This avoids the need to encode from MPEG2 to AVI, then AVI back to MPEG2 - it effectively just "chops out" what you want.
Hope that helps...There is some corner of a foreign field that is forever England: Telstra Stadium, Sydney, 22/11/2003.
