I have an external Sony DVD writer with number 500 (max speed 4-x). It took me 15 min to burn DVD. Oh, OK, it was before I installed Windows XP prof. It's a Sony brand computer, that came with Win XP Home Ed. I reformated hard drive, so I could get rid of "sony stuff". Now, computer works much better, but not for DVD writer, I updated firmware, I installed service pack for Windows, I even installed Windows XP from different CD, but anyway, it takes me 30-40 min to burn DVD. I use the same media (Memorex, Fujim, TDK) and the same software (Record Now). So, how can I burn my DVDs faster?

SOunds like it dropped from 4X to 2X.
Check the IDE controller advanced settings in device manager and verify the transfer mode is UltraDMA and not PIO.
