  1. I recently purchased a movie on DVD from Hong Kong. It's supposed to be Region Free DVD, but I cannot play it on my Panasonic S35 DVD player. I can play it fine on my computer using Power DVD and Koss KD305 (though the picture freezes from time to time). I tried to make backup using DVDShrink, but I got the error message, "Invalid DVD Navigation Structure".
Since my Panasonic S35 is slowly "dying", I'm thinking about buying a new DVD player which will play the new DVD I got from Hong Kong.
Since I don't know what the problem is with the DVD, I don't what kind of DVD player I need to look for.
Could anyone please tell me what you think the problem with the DVD I got or what kind of DVD this is?

    Thank you.

Can you try running DVDINfo Pro on it and see what the header says? You may have a wrong region disc.

Maybe the DVD is not legit and is in fact a DVD-r which your player does not like.

  4. Hi,
    Thank you for your reply.
I just ran DVDINfo Pro on it. Here is what I got:

    Media Information
    Disc Regions are 1,2,3,4,5,6
Media code/Manufacturer ID N/A Pressed DVD
    Format Type UDF 1.02
    Volume Name UNDEFINED
    Application id
    Implementation id AuthoringWare Co. USA
    Recording Date/Time (mm/dd/yyyy) 6/20/2003 0:55:20
    Format Capacity 4.36GB(4.68GB)
    Book Type DVD-ROM
    Media Type DVD-ROM
    Data area starting sector 30000h
    Data area end sector 22DE1Ah
    Linear Density 0.267um/bit
    Track Density 0.74um/track
    Number of Layers 1

Do you know what these mean? I have no idea except that it's a region free DVD and it's probably DVD-5.

If region coding were the problem then your dvd player would tell you so. A warning screen of some sort pops up and says its the wrong region.

It just sounds to me like the DVD has authoring errors. Not much you can do short of re-authoring it yourself.

It looks like an all-region disc all right and not a DVD-R. Must be a bad copy :P
