our company have 1mb / sec speed (quite slow i know)...but i can only download file at the speed of around 10 kb/s even using Download Accelerator...it's free though. im behind company firewall squid2.5 and routers i think...maybe there are 1000 plus pc connected to our LAN but maybe around 100 only can access the internet...

how come that our max is 1mb/s and i only have 10kb/s?...could the system administrator limit the speed per user? our sys admin is not that approachable so i can't ask him about my problem and you got to make papers just to request this things, approval, justification etc...

is there a way or a software that can make my connection faster?

  2. One thing that you could do to help your transfer speed when you download a file is find a mirror that is closer to you. This can help speed up the process. I'll think about it and let you know if I come up with anything else.

Oh yes, he most certinly could.

Not sure what your specific problem is, without access to all the servers info its so hard to tell.

  4. They do it with newsgroups too. But there are programs , e.g., grabit, you can use to open 8 connections. I get 8x the speed that way. That is for newsgroups, not the web.

Just make sure you keep your "bits" and "bytes" straight. Internet providers quote megabits per second. Computers operate using bytes.

Multiply the "bytes" value by 8 to get the speed in "bits" (bit is "b" and byte is "B")

I believe there are "added" bits or bytes to the packet for CRC error checking and something else.. .I've read it to be a total of 10 bytes or something like that...
