A lot of movies are being released in Superbit without any special features, because the S/F's with the movie often take up a lot of space and often make up 2 (possibly 3 discs). Do you think they should just make the Superbit WideScreen movies on one or 2 discs and then put the features on separate discs? Of course a single set could be 4-5 discs and be a little more expensive. But I want to know how many people would prefer to buy it that way.

The quality of tgpo's movies make you forget you're watching something that was produced on a Mac. Once he figures out whether to use MP4, AVI, MOV or MPG as his format, I plan to start the popcorn and download the rest of his collection.

The porn movie he made is superb. Who would have thought he had a babysitter next door that looked just like the one living next to BJ_M

    Hello,

Nah... superbit seems more like a gimmick for hdtv owners. I'm still stuck with 4:3 so why pay more when you won't see the difference???? AND I want the EXTRAS!!!

worth it in some instances. like my copy of Blade Runner, dirty source and a single layer disc. doesn't need to be Superbit, but an average higher than 4.5mbps would be nice.....
Be good if they displayed average bitrate along with aspect ratio and languages on packaging.

That actually would be very cool. High, Medium, & Low bit versions. you could have everything in 1 or a few discs in a regular case. Medium would have a higher quality movie, but less special features if there weren't many in the first place (why make up stupid games and crap nobdy uses after the first time?). And High, being just the movie or a multi-disc set keeping special features separate from the movie, but not compromising the original bitrate quality of the actual movie.

If you notice I didn't mention Full Screen Pan&scan or Panimorph. If it was created in the Full Screen ratio, I still consider it a Widescreen movie. Widescreen has come to mean to me original aspect ratio. Anything else is worthless. Sacrificing the scene viewing for television compatibility. The standard was all backwards until WideScreen televisions made it on the market - IMHO. I have a large screen regular television that I see bars at the top and bottom of it. It doesn't bother me at all.

I have a limited number of Superbit DVDs, think I got something like 4 or 5 of them.

They do make a difference in image and sound as can tell of better AV than the standard DVD.

Regarding Special Features or extras if you like as I don't normally have the time to check out and watch them.

Tom Cruise's "The Last Samurai" is an example of one having the extra disc and not the time as yet.

However, I can remember checking out the extras of T2 and Russell Crowe's Gladiator.

I will have to make time for the recent Stars Wars extra bonus disc soon to have a look.

I am very pro-superbit as long as the dvd is not more expensive because of it. As for special features, I really don't care for them, in fact I don't want 'em!

    I agree with 888888

I am a big fan of them, have some good Jap import ones such as Ghostbusters 1+2 superbit, the picture and sound on them is excellent along with a dts soundtrack !!!.

I am still on the lookout for Jurassic Park 1 and 2 on superbit (Jap) which unfortunately went OOP before I got bitten by the bug.

Unfortunately, Superbit is normally as much more expensive than the standard DVD. It can be $10.00 extra for it without the extras.

On the other hand, I have seen DVDs as more expensive with the extras included than the standard DVD release here too.

“The day after tomorrow” is an example in Australia and this one is just about to be released.

I got a choice of a single film only or the double DVD having special features on this one. The difference is also $10.00 more if someone here wants the double disc special features version.

Superbit is very limited here in Australia. I think I got only one from the U.S. which is a Superbit version. I believe there should be more available in the U.S. than here.

I can order another one myself a Superbit from America.

I disagree, when comparing a superbit movie to its standard counterpart the difference both visually and sonically is very much noticeable. Jurassic Park three for instance is brilliant. Last action hero has one of the best dts soundtracks I have ever heard and Ghostbusters 1 and 2 are excellent, all only avaliable on superbit.

If there were a gimmick they would only be re-packaged but you can see that considerable time and effort has gone into a new transfer and new track. Plus, as you know I am a huge fan of dts and these discs all feature dts whereas the standard version just has crappy dolby digital.

    Hello,

Why does everyone put down DOLBY DIGITAL???? I know DTS rocks but Dolby Digital EX at 448 is AWESOME! Just check out the new Star Wars Trilogy Dvds or the prequel discs - incredible! Done right Dolby rocks as much as DTS.

  18. Please !!, Dolby is 448, standard dts is 768, 50% more bandwidth (or whatever it is called).

Full bitrate is 1536 triple Dolby Digital, on some films the extra bitrate is not utilised but on films such as Armageddon, Twister and the new film Hero in es it kicks the living shit out of Dolby all day long.

Don't get me wrong DD tracks are ok the Matrix has a good track and there are many others that are good, I just find dolby digital uses far to much bass and the sound field is a lot smaller and less dynamic.

Don't let the fact that because Star Wars is in EX it is the best. It is not. Lucas along with Warners have a hang up on DTS and thus opt for (in my opinion) inferior DD.

  20. I never said it wasn't good, every one has their own opinion.

I just cannot see how you think and I quote "I know DTS rocks but Dolby Digital EX at 448 is AWESOME!" when half bit rate dts is already half again of DD's rate.

It's simple, at home theres no comparison for dolby only tracks. If there was DTS Star Wars than that would be different. Since there isn't (and may never be) it's perfectly acceptable for the home environment. Especially since I only have a 80 watt dolby/dts SONY receiver. I can't fully utilize the peak sound anyway (and using just a 50 watt sub on a 80 watt system kind of sucks - but it was the cheapest in my price range at the time).

  22. On a £100 5.1 set up the difference between the two is obvious.

You do not need a super expensive get up to be able to differentiate between the two.

I'd like a Superbit Movie and the special Features available on separate discs in the same case. If it takes 4 discs, so be it. However, I think they should make 2 versions of Superbit. SuperBit-StandAlone (Just the Movie in a case and standard cover) & SuperBit-Special Features (a larger case with nice cover posters, special feature discs, and other cool items for people willing to pay the money for them) IMHO - There's no reason to have FS versions, Gold series, Silver Series, Platinum Series, 37th anniversary premier Vista collector's edition. That's just plain nuts. And why the heck do they need to take it out of print so early. Allow places to back order and when the demand is high, make the DVDs or charge extra for specialty creation. It's about double the actual cost of a DVD at regular retail price, but if someone wants it, they'll pay for it.

DISNEY does that regularly. You watch. Aladdin comes to dvd for the first time this fall and I bet by next June it will be "limited time availibility, going back into the vaults of instant classics!!" It's just a big trick to make you buy it early instead of whenever you want.

Could you imagine if the Star Wars Dvds were like that??? Yeah right, they'll be available forever.

Not in the previous state though. By the year 3000, the movie will look like a politically correct version of "This Island Earth crossed with "Guns of Navarrone". Probably will still be a good movie, but nobody will be able to associate it with the original.
